Offhand, I would say you are jerking my chain. This is such a simple concept, I'm having a hard time believing that you don't understand this.

However, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and offer this explanation:

Since we have a RWD car and the speedo sensor picks up the signal from the parts of the tranny that spin with the drive wheels, the size of those wheels/tires affect how the signal is read. If you put on larger diameter drive tires, the vehicle speed sensor will see the tire spin slower than normal and register a slower speed and less mileage (4% to be more precise) than you are actually going. Putting on larger diameter tires is like putting in final drive gears in the rear diff that is numerically lower than stock. Anytime you mess with the gearing after the transmission, you are messing with the speedometer and odometer readings. Changing gearing or changing tire diameters is "messing with the gearing".

It doesn't appear to be.

If you punch in the tire size in the TireRack site, you will come up with only about a dozen tires that are in the correct sizing for our rear OEM 16" rims. None of them are BFG.

I've been enjoying the predicatable all-temperature performance of the Dunlop SP5000 245/45-16 all winter. Now I can't find them on the tire rack site. Are they gone forever? What's the replacement product?

There are 14 pages so far to the topic so if the following question has been answered, forgive me...

Tire cost appears to be dictated by popularity more then size, so would a 250 cost more than a 225???

Could you use the Modifry speedo correction device to correct for running 245/50-16 tires?

EDIT: Nevermind, I re-read what the yellowjacket speedo calibrator does.

Hey guys,

First you should know I'm no rookie to this site or tire purchasing for this car. I've logged over 100k and gone through a number of sets of rubber.

Here is my question.....we all know the S02 in the rear is more square than normal and the 225 size is correct only for those. However there is an RE050A also made by Bridgestone that is only available in a 225. Are they constructed similar to the S02 (re also square)? Is this an ALL Bridgestone thing or just the imfamous S02?

I have always used aftermarket tires in a 245 and will continue to do so if these are shown to be no good.

I can't say if it applies to the RE tire. I know it's not throughout the Bridgestone line, since my Bridgestone Blizzaks are 225 and they are nowhere near the footprint of an SO2. Look here:

Note that both are 225/50/16, but also note that the SO2 has much more tread on the contact patch.

Thanks Dave. I also have a call into Jim but got voicemail. Looks like those S02 are truely unique.

Oh well, back to my original choice. T1R here I come.
