PSS's vs RE-71R's
#11
They are two completely different tires. One is a max performance tire that wears quick and is designed to top the 200tw class for street tires for autocross. The other is designed as an all around summer tire that has high grip but is still refined with reasonable wear levels and good wet performance.
For most people and probably yours, the PSS or its successor the pilot sport 4s is the better choice.

For me, the RE71R was totally streetable and road-trippable. But for me so are NT01s....
But anyway, PSS are obsolete at best, and in my case the grip went away in a short period of time, I'd never recommend them. There are other tires in the Max Perf category...

The Super Sports are a more rounded DD tire. The RE71R is a track tire for the street. They are noisy but the tire sticks to the road like glue. For a daily driver you could also look at the new Bridgestone S007 that should be out around the first of May or the Conti Extreme Contact Sport.
If I can help let me know.

RE71Rs will not be a good match for your suspension setup. I would recommend putting money towards a coilover setup like Ohlins DFV or KW V3 so you have a more appropriate spring rate to match the lowered ride height and larger grippier tires and dampers that better match the spring rate. Any lower ride height on fairly soft spring rates will have issues rubbing on the fender liner under load with grippy tires. With the spacers it would definitely be a good idea to do the standard fender lip roll and fender liner trim as well.

Which is precisely why the PSS fits better for the OP's use case. The main selling point of the re71r is super high grip levels for those last tenths of seconds (lap times). The PSS will be a much better street tire - longer lasting, better in the cold, quieter, with comparable grip levels that you will see on the street.
Also, the re71r is best paired with coilovers - you're way under sprung/damped for these tires. With more grip comes more roll - which would cause more wear/tear on your suspension components. I guarantee that the PSS will better match the mods you currently have on your car, as well as for your intended use
