NT01
I've run them as street tires on the FD for thousands of miles. They have a ton more drive grip than RE71R (maybe not so much an issue at stockish hp levels), and they sustain grip at the track better for extended lapping. Also, I was at the treadwear indicators on RE71R rears after ~800 street miles and one (1) track day. Current NT01s on the FD are at 2000+ street miles with 4 track days and rears are now at the treadwear indicators.

NT01s are also very streetable, I have no complaints. Just be careful over standing water!

I want a tire I can still drive on the street aggressively, assuming some heat and no rain. Also if I get caught in the rain, I can drive uber slow but the tire can't kill me. Something with no tread (R7) wont work.

In my mind the Trofeo R is streetable enough because if any OEM will put it on the street car it can't be a hazard driving to and from the track. Is the NT-01 or Toyo RA1 similar on the street?

Otherwise The RE71 seems like the choice except I am using the tire to pace myself so consistency is key.

Last thing... this will be on OEM AP2 wheels. So 245/255-40-17 and 215/225-45-17 would be the sizes.

I've taken the car on long trips and driven in the rain plenty of times with the NT01s and I've never had any issues. Again, you will want to avoid standing water, but I've never felt like I had to slow a ridiculous amount to avoid hydroplaning.

I just looked up pricing and the NT01 is VERY reasonable.

I would say its at the top of my list...

Had the same question myself, decided to go with Toyo R888R.
issue is that front size availability is not so good - Toyo site lists 205/55R16 as available, but could not locate it anywhere.
had to call both Tire Rack and Toyo to get an option for "special production" and "extra cost shipping" for each tire (+50$) just to sort the fronts.
Rear size was easier.

what sizes are you looking for?

Depending on how big the tire runs, I usually like stock bias. 215/45/17 + 245/40/17. However I don't think those are an option in the Nittos or Trofeos. So I will go with the standard upsize of 225/45/17 + 255/40/17.

I live in Washington and have driven my car on NT01s a handful of times in the rain back and forth on a 120mile round trip to see my parents. Yes, standing water isn't great but as long as you are careful I haven't had any issues on wet roads, slabbing up and down the freeway or in the city. I had Nt05's before and notice very little difference in wet performance on the street compared to the NT01s as long as it isn't sub 40* out. Like I said, I feel like NT01 is the best compromise between fastest lap times and an occasional street tire. I have 5 track days on my set and about 3000 street miles. They are still at about 3/32nds and I've been running some pretty fast lap times at our local tracks.

Re71r best street tire imo

NT01 best semi slick imo

Hoosier best tire imo.

btw the nt01 is better than Re71r in means of pure grip and preformance.

Radical difference between the NT05 and NT01 as far as dry grip performance on street/track, or more anticipated incremental improvement but nothing earth shattering? Trying to get a sense being on NT05 now. Of course grip is relative to sizing, being im on 275/315's, but just trying to get a sense for apples to apples.

Try the A052's. I've had them on for 2 days at 2 different tracks (Thunderhill 5-mile 95F and Sonoma Raceway 75F). I came from RE71r's. Improved my time at Sonoma Raceway by about 1.5 sec and they are just as grippy as they were when they were new. I'm really bad at describing how tires feel so do ask me about feel. I only know that i'm going about 2mph faster through almost all turns and I just feel so much more confident through most corners. They get up to temp really fast and doesn't get really greasy until the end of the day but even then still sticks. Will be going to my 3rd day on these tires at Laguna Seca in about 2 weeks and will report back. Oh yeah, these tires seem to be quieter then re71's also AND they are 200TW!!!!!.
