The Bridgestone RE71r has been around since 2015. The BFG Rival is similarly old although the Rival 1.5 is newer. The Hankook R-S4 wasn't as competitive, nothing new from Dunlop.

Is there a new killer tire for 2018?

Nope, it's still the RE71R, or the BFG Rival S 1.5. The Nexen SUR4G is really, really close to those two. Dunlop has a ZIII in Japan, but no news on a U.S. release. The Yokohama A052 is 200TW, but not SCCA legal.

The Dunlop z3 will be here by April 2018. Might be as comparable to re71

Thanks! Good to know.

2018 is the 4th season for the RE71r. It took BFG three years to create the Rival 1.5, and then many people consider it comparable at best and the RE71r easier for most drivers to get fast times with.

It will be interesting to see what the achieved. It also means holding off on new tires until at least May.

Why isn't the A052 SCCA legal?

Tire Rack has prices. A set will be $160-$180 more than RE71r. $30 more than BFG Rival S 1.5.
