Eric, B serious! All that logic is going to hurt someones feelings
Tires are the most important part of the car for safety and performance period.

I doubt OP was ever planning on coming back. He probably asked...didn't see an answer in 2 mins...and bought whatever tires the person at the shop recommended.
Idk what's available in 205/55 and 225/50 or 245/45 AP1 sizing. Though the 71R and Z2 both make awful DD tires.... I will agree that Z2's are nowhere near as bad as the 71R, just based on wear rates.
The 71R does, however, offer much MUCH better rain traction than the Z2.
And yes...the RE11 or AD08 are the most liveable of the EP tires. But...DAT COST DOE.
I think BFG Sport Comp2's are available in AP1 sizing. As well as Kumho SPT?
OP (or whomever reads this thread with the same question) would be better off buying AP2 wheels in order to open up a plethora of excellent tire options.

I went back and forth between the RE760 and BFG Comp2 before choosing the RE760. Both get very good user ratings on Tirerack.com. In the end, I stayed with the RE760 because of what I saw happen to a Subaru WRX driver at an HPDE. His car was stock and he had a new set of Comp2s. By the end of the second session he had lost big chunks of rubber on the outside edge of the fronts and I could see the tread beginning to separate from the carcass. It was so bad that he put the spare in place of the worst of the fronts in order to drive home. In fairness to the tires, the car was stock and I think that vintage (early 2000s) had a pretty soft suspension and he was probably overdriving the available grip by a large margin. That said, I was already familiar with the RE760 on my TDI and the tread separation made me nervous so I chose the RE760s.
In hindsight, the Subaru situation was probably a corner case. Given the RE760 isn't available in AP1 sizes anymore, and given the high marks the Comp2s get on TR, if I had to choose for a daily driver in a non-snow climate, I'd probably choose them.
Perhaps someone with the Comp2s can share their own experience?

I haven't had the comp2's. But I was happy with their predecessor (G force sport) for daily use. They were reasonable in a lot of respects and they gripped well and lasted. BFG is owned by Michelin...so I would assume there is some idea and resource sharing.
This thread was never about tires that one would use on a track. Though you can use Max performance tires on a track...they do have earlier limitations and unless you're a beginner...you'd probably want to move to at least an EP tire.
And speaking of tread seperation...I seperated the tread on a brand new set of AD08's in my ITR because I was over driving a little...and the car had the stock upper control arms.

S-04 is in a higher performance category. It is going to fall somewhere between the RE760 and RE-11 in all categories. I was going to recommend it as a compromise but not available in AP1 sizes.

Thank you all again for the excellent responses. Since my S2000 is my daily driver and I live in Texas where it never snows, I went with the RE-11. They arrive in a few days and I will report back when they are installed. I might try autocrossing some day so these tires may get to have their limits tested.

I had the RE11 installed on May 19th and since then have put about a 1000 miles on them traveling all around Texas. The steering is sharper and more responsive but the difference is not as dramatic as I was expecting. It is probably a limit of what electric steering can provide. The grip increase is HUGE and I have yet to produce any slip in the dry. Wet grip is increased as well but not to such an insane degree as the dry. I am suprised at how civilized they are for being a max performance tire. They are not loud and ride comfort is just a tad bit firmer than in my previous tires (all seasons). As some said in previous posts they may be overkill for the street. If I can get 15,000 miles out of them I will be happy.
