Tire Choice

So I just picked up a set up PF01's in 17x9 +60 all around. I was thinking about ordering Hankooks Ventus Evo 2's or maybe Kumo V720's

The car is a weekend driver with occasional canyon driving. Would one tire be better than the other for the intended use, or is there something else I should be looking at?

Ive heard good feedback about that Firestone Indy 500 on here so I decided to give them a try. So far so good and they’re priced pretty good too.

Tradeoffs are grip vs. longevity vs. cost. I too use the Firestone 500 for my street tire and think for street driving they are a good balance of reasonable gip and low cost and moderate longevity. If you want more grip, then a 200TW tire such as the Hankook RS4 would be a better choice, but you'll pay a bit more and sacrifice some longevity. Continuing in that direction, RE71 gives even more grip but with less longevity at a higher price. Michelin PS4 is a premium tire with lots of grip, good longevity, but very expensive.

You might want to spend some time on the Tire Rack website. There's a lot of info based on consumer feedback that will help you decide what matters most to you and which tire best matches it.

I think I maybe leaning towards the hankook evo 2’s.

Seems like they may be a good street tire.

It depends on who you and and what you want out of the car. Because your on a Internet forum with car enthusiast most people here will tell you to get a 200 thread wear tire in the extreme summer performance categorie and long as you don’t drive in the snow. The kumho v720 is a extreme performance 200 thread wear tire and it they type of tire most of us run. It’s comparable with tires like the rs4 and the re71 and the star spec.

the other tire you mention the hankook evo 2 is in a much lower grip class of tire and cost a lot less and will last twice as long and will give you significantly less grip.

The choice is really yours to make. I personally only run 200 thread wear extrem performance tires.

Tire Rack, Simple tire, Tire Buyer, America's tire. You have lots of online tire stores to choose from, just figure out what the out the door price(ODP) is for the tire you choose. I've gone with 4 different online stores because of the price difference, it seems like they(online stores) lower or increase the price of a tire willy-nilly so it can save you money to check around on the final price before you buy them.

I try to work with a local tire shop first. I get pricing from TR and then see how close they can come. I'd rather give the local store the business if they can get close, which they usually can if it's a tire they carry. I know they can't stay in business with just rebalance and flat repairs. Plus they'll do favors - I did an out of state PCA event that required a professional tech inspection and the local shop did it for me free of charge.

I think I'm going with the Kumho V720's.
