Default Tires for my 17-yr-old s2000

Hi, I need some new, grippy tires for my S2K that I just drive around on streets, not track. Anyone want to recommend good tires these days (or point me at a discussion that answers this)? I don't care if they wear out in 10k-15K miles.

OEM 16" wheels I assume? Bridgestone RE-11 are very nice and are I believe are quieter than the RE-71A tires.

Fitting OEM 17" wheels will give you more choices. For example the rear width in 16" wheels is 225mm. In 17" a 255mm rear tire will fit fine. Over an inch wider, lower profile, better handling.

I order from Tire Rack more often than not, but for one more day there is a Labor Day sale at Discount Tire Direct (always free shipping).

I was able to stack rebates, so $100 off from DTD and $70 off from Bridgestone on some RE-71R's.

Thumbs up OEM-16 vs OEM-17

Thanks for the recommendations. Yes, I have OEM-16 wheels.
You are correct that I am having trouble finding available tires for them.
How difficult (and expensive) is it to switch to 17" wheels?
I like the idea of better handling.

If you stay with the 16" you need the hardest sidewall you can find. The s-02 that came with the car were rock solid. You could roll on a flat tire. And be aware the rear 225's where as wide as 245's

Those 2 things will make the 16" great.

Or like said previously, swap to 17" and save trouble and get pretty much any reasonable tire

Hope this help ..

Where are you located? Check your local forum to see if anyone is selling a set of OEM 17's where you are; alternatively, you could pick-up a set of aftermarket wheels from the Tire Rack or one of the vendors on here if you want some JDM bling.
