Winter Tire Size

Winter Tire Size
I've been told that I could and should run 205/55/16 all around for winter. But since aftermarket tires requires 245/45/16 in the rear, how does 205/55/16 going to fit the rear?
Hope someone can clear this up for me, thank you!

On snow you want more weight per square inch of tire for more bite. 205's will fit on all 4 rims but this is NOT a performance set up- this is a Winter set-up. Wider tires are going to be more likely to 'float' on snow and ice than narrower tires, hence the recommendation for 205's all around. Just keep in mind that on dry ground there will be a LOT more oversteer with these than in warm temps with any Max porformance tire.

I agree with Jim, I was assuming from your Canadian flag that you probably live somewhere that looks like the North Pole for 6 months of the year . What the heck do I know though, I'm from FL, and I don't think I've ever even SEEN a snow tire! I'm flying to the U.P. of Michigan on Saturday though, so I should get to see plenty of snow tires then

We get alot of snow, freezing rain, ice and so forth in my area (nova scotia, east coast canada)
I ran Prelude SH wheels last season (had the front hubs milled out a few mm's on the wheels to fit) and ran 225/50/16's all around. That setup worked great.
I picked up another set of stock AP1 wheels for this season to run this winter, and was wondering the same thing. I'd rather go 205's all around, but was wondering if the 205 would fit the rear wheels okay? I have been told by the tire shop the 205's will worth on a 7.5" wide wheel, any truth to that?

They will fit OK, they may look a little streched, but not nearly as much as some of these 'ballers' with their 'aggressive' fitments putting 235/30/18's on 10.5" wheels. I assume a 205/55, so you have plenty of sidewall to work with. If you have any doubts most tire manufactures list their measured rim widths and 'approved' rim width ranges on their spec sheets. For example, the OEM S02 front tire (205) is approved for a 5.5-7.5 in rim.

Thanks for all the help guys. And yes, we get winter for roughly 5 months of the year but it doesn't snow as much anymore because of global warming. Still does, just can't guess when it'll hit, so I should probably prepare myself haha!
