Default Yokohama Avid V4 tires (rear only) review

My 02 S2000 has just reached the 19000miles and was also entering it's first encounter with snow and ice. I've noticed that most S2000 drivers needs to replace the rear tires (Bridgestones) around 18000 to 20000miles. Pretty ordinary for a high reving sports car. So I've purchased a pair of Yokohama Avid V4 tires for the rear. (Fronts are still Bridgestones) I really just wanted the old Bridgestones back but they were bit costly compared to other tires. Anyways, my review (in general) is negative. I hate these tires. I was looking for a set that will make the car grip more with increase in traction. The ride I was looking for was stiff and hard. But Avid (unlike the advertisement promise) rides more soft and damp. It sacrifices traction and grip for comfort (trust me comfort is the last thing I look for in this car). The alignment of the car was changed rediculously. (Although fixed). The turns are more wide and the body roll has slightly (enough to notice) changed. If your a buyer who wants a bit more comfortable ride with your tires these are something that you guys might want to consider. But if you have a racing spirit and can't stand to lose traction and grip in turn give up comfort stay away from these tires.

You only changed 2 tires and you have a tire that is 1/2" narrower in the rear. No wonder it doesn't handle well. The set up you have is what I would call dangerous. The Avid V4 will give a lot better snow traction but with the S02 on the front you can't stop or stear the car.
I would highly recommend a different set up with four of the same tires on all four corners and save your S02 for the summer.

When my rears wore out I replaced them with S03's(all season high performance) which weren't as sticky as OEM S02's. Talk about crazy oversteer, car balance was way off with SO2's in front and SO3's in the rear. I still had about 50% thread in my front S02's but changed them to S03's right away. Jim is right.
