1994 NA1 Honda NSX Goes Full Type R+

Just because the first-gen Acura NSX is a legend doesn't mean that you can't make it even better.

Improving Upon Perfection

Even today, 14 years after Honda stopped making the first-gen NSX, we still hold it in extremely high regard. Mostly because it was a masterpiece, the kind of machine that only comes around every so often. But even that won't stop people like Mr. J, whose sinister NSX recently landed on the pages of DSport Magazine, from taking things a step further.

Driver's Car

Sure, gem original NSXs are starting to sell for big money. But these cars were made to be driven, and they're incredibly reliable given their supercar pedigree. And Mr. J, who hails from Japan’s Kanagawa prefecture, certainly isn't afraid to drive his.

17-year Evolution

Mr. J owned a track-focused NSX Type R prior to this car, but sadly lost it to some low-life thief. So he did the next best thing and replaced it with this 1994 NA1, a car he's been steadily improving over the last 17 years.

Trial and Error

Mr. J didn't wait long to start upgrading his new ride, beginning the process in his first week of ownership. But he went through six or seven suspension combinations before figuring out which one he liked the best.

Winning Combo

He eventually landed on a combination of Advance/ Bilstein E12 adjustable dampers, Eibach springs, front pivot clamps, Advance pillow ball bushings, and Brembo four-piston calipers.

More Power

After pushing his new ride as far as possible at the track, Mr. J realized it was time to add some power. So he had the C30A block bored out, then fitted it with 12:1 Toda Racing pistons, connecting rods, and cams.

In Control

The newly refurbished engine breathes easily through Fujitsubo stainless-steel headers and an Advance titanium exhaust. With an HKS FCON V Pro engine management controlling things, the car laid down 345 hp on the dyno.

One of a Kind

Mr. J was also slowly getting into the show scene in addition to spending time at the track. Thus, he soon grew a desire to change the looks of his NSX so that it wouldn't look like every other car out there.

D.I.Y.

Amazingly enough, the crafty Mr. J constructed a host of parts himself from fiberglass and dry carbon fiber. He reupholstered much of the interior himself and even built the gauge cluster, which features an Android Nexus tablet in the center.

Ultimate First-Gen

A Marga Hills widebody aero kit, along with a custom splitter, diffuser and belly pan rounds out the tasty package. And the end result is an NSX that's truly one-of-a-kind. Perhaps more importantly, it's also one man's vision of the ultimate first-gen.
