5 Ways to Maximize Storage Room on the S2000

Among the S2000's other unique points, it offers some of the least storage space of any sports car around-- even less so than the Porsche 911. While this means nothing for purely sporting purposes, if there's any case you'll want to take it on a trip or even for groceries, you're going to have to get smart about your use of the real estate.

1. Utilize the "secret compartment"

There's no magic answer to the S2000's signature lack of storage space. Anyone finding their aims held back by that fact should probably be driving a different car, to begin with. However, there are a number of helpful ways to maximize the car's real estate. Not least of all among these opportunities is the existence of "secret compartments." The center console between the seats can be unlatched to store items. There's a surprising amount of extra space afforded by the compartment, and you can get a hold of anything in it without leaving your driver's seat.  Nonetheless, as easy as it is to access, some S2000 owners surprisingly go without using the secret area at all.

2. Plan to exploit every inch of the trunk

It can seem like a hard stretch even to cram a couple of days' worth of clothing into the trunk of an S2000. Every little nook counts for something, and you shouldn't leave a corner unused. Although you should be able to fit a suitcase or backpack in there, don't be opposed to storing items flexible like shirts outside the suitcase to fill up space. The minuscule S2K space leaves little room to suffice painting within the lines so to speak, and you may need to start thinking outside the box in order to compensate for the tight quarters.

3. Store coats behind the headrests

Stuffing things behind the headrests won't do much to make your car feel any less cramped, but it can be a good place to store coats and other clothing during a drive, so long you're not driving with an open top. Putting on a hardtop will secure the nook at the back for coats and other compact items. Just make sure you leave yourself room to see through the window behind you; it's one thing to be thrifty with space, but nothing's worth losing out on safety.

4. Fill up the backseat pockets

The S2000 interior offers pockets directly behind the seats specifically for the sake of storage. These can be opened up more if the seats are pushed up. While the passenger seat is arguably your best bet for storage in most cases, driving solo means you'll be able to open up one of those nets to its fullest extent. The AP2 models come equipped with larger door nets, making it all the easier to store items. If you're taking your S2K on a grocery run, you might find the back net is perfect for a small carton of milk.

5. Be smart about what you carry

The S2K will never carry a lot no matter what you do, but you can make the tight space work for the vast majority of your trips if you know how to make the most of it. You might be surprised how much extra space you can create for yourself just by giving your car an occasional clear-out. Make a mental inventory of everything in your car, and make a decision for each whether it really needs to be taken around. Once you master the art of priorities, you will master the space.
