What was all the fuss about?

The S2000 is one of the most beloved creations that have come from Honda in recent years. While it was on the market it was wildly popular with the import crowd and after it was discontinued its popularity only grew wider on the used car market. The world really was blown away at how the gorgeous little roadster blended capable performance and stout handling together.

Something special on the horizon

For a long time there were rumors, speculation, and hearsay but now we have patent renderings of another open-air sports car from Honda. It's been almost 10 years since the brand nixed the car and closing in on its 20th birthday but Honda is looking to reintroduce a vehicle that would slot in under the NSX.

What's up with the top?

What looks so cool about these renderings is that the car has its own identity while still holding the DNA of its precursor as well as the NSX halo car. The styling is fresh and the weight displacement will be 50/50 or at least very close due to the mid-engine placement. LED headlamps, gaping air intakes, and a rear end that includes active aero will add to the updated car. What does strike us is that some of the renderings we've seen have a hardtop on them. There are no official details so there's no way to tell if it's another soft top, Targa top, or a coupe.

More power than last time

It is rumored that under the hood there will be a downgraded version of the Civic Type R's turbocharged 2.0-liter 4 cylinder engine. I know what you're thinking right now with a wtf look at the thought of an inferior version of the awesome Type R's engine, but there is good news. This car will purportedly also have an electric motor assist that will boost the 1.5-liter engine to an output of 300 horsepower.

A real budget friendly sports car

The car will be positioned to go head to head with rivals like the Porsche Cayman, the BMW Z4, and the Audi TT. Further more, Honda could cultivate its new relationship with Formula One by adding in tech that has been developed with McLaren for the program. The fruit of the last time Honda was part of F1 was while the brand was concocting the AP1 and that's where the insane 9,000 rpm came from.
