Coming Straight Outta Okinawa: Car Culture on the Beach

Spending time in this area of Japan can put you in a precarious position in paradise due to unforgiving humidity. However, while you are here you will surely have a front row seat to the varied and awesome automotive culture that calls the location home.

From Okinawa with love

Recently SpeedHunters took a trip to Okinawa Japan to check out the island's largest yearly automotive event. That annual meet is known as Koza Motorsports Festival and ranges from motorcycles to SUVs to all sorts of cars that features something for everyone.

Legends left and right

Officiated drag racing events took place where attendees could pay a fee and participate to see who was faster off the line. Due to the size of the lot, that unfortunately wasn't very far, but the crowds seemed to love the show of fury and smoke.

Brands showing support

Brands were on hand with their cars to show off their stock production vehicles to the guests. Those cars included the much sought after Honda Civic Type R and the new ND Mazda Miata.

I'd rather have the FD RX-7

Many import scene favorites were out in full force and dressed to the nines with expensive bodywork and performance parts aplenty. There was also a decent showing of domestic cars, namely, the Corvette. There were all sorts of the patriotic sportscar found at the show with generations C3 through the present being spotted.

Fostering the children

What was really cool about the show was that it was a complete family event. There were things to do and see for all ages including activities that allowed families to learn more about the motorsport world together. There was even a booth where the little ones would be encouraged to foster a love for all things motoring by signing them up to get their racing license.
