You Know the Name

Spoon... A world-renowned leader in Honda performance, outside of Mugen, there isn't a more reputable provider of aftermarket parts and accessories for Hondas.  To commemorate the opening of their stateside operations Spoon went all in on this S2000, the end result is a car that both you and I could build in our driveways save for the custom one-off roof panel.

A Visit to the Toy Store

To accomplish this build they didn't have to look too hard or go very far.  They paid a visit to their own catalog and pretty much got one of everything. What we're left with Spoon Sports USA S2000. This car sports a nice low aggressive stance and looks that can kill.

Now, About That Roof...

What easily grabs your attention the most with this build is the roof. I can tell you this, you'll never see another like it. It is an open-air concept roof designed in-house by Spoon Sports Japan.  Once the design was finalized they then sent it stateside to be fabricated, and ultimately installed on the Spoon Sports USA car. This is no fiberglass top either; no Sir (or ma'am).  The roof is intricately machined out of a single piece of billet aluminum into to the shape you see here.

Roof Continued

The end goal of this one of a kind roof panel is to allow you to still enjoy an open top without having to worry about the weather.  As a bonus it cuts down on wind noise while driving so you can hear that sweet exhaust sing it's song all the way up to 8,500rpm. Completing the roof panel is a plexiglass top, that also gives you that open-air feeling, and helps combat the claustrophobia in the tight confines of the S2000 cabin.

Wheels, Tires and Suspension

Starting with the wheels, we have the Spoon CR93s with a nice offset for the S2000. The wheels are fitted with the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08Rs. Keeping the wheels planted to the ground is a complete top to bottom Spoon suspension. A set of front and rear Spoon wide fenders make sure the tires aren't exposed. With their planned motor upgrades, the stock brakes had to go, and the new CR93 wheels allowed for the larger Spoon 4 piston monoblock calipers which provide excellent stopping power.

Body Work

In addition to the Spoon wide fenders, there is a mix of Spoon’s S-Tai and Aero upgrades. The bumpers are Aero fare, but the rear diffuser and hood are S-Tai. A Spoon GT spoiler and Aero mirrors round out the rest of the exterior modifications.

Engine Mods

Like everything else, the engine is a full Spoon Sports Japan build, the intake manifold is still Honda OEM, however, the throttle body and air cleaner are Spoon. Sending the exhaust to the Spoon N1 muffler is a Spoon exhaust manifold in a four-two-one design for max power and torque. Topping off the engine is an attention-grabbing yellow valve cover complete with a Kevlar coil shroud. Finally, a Spoon aluminum radiator, coolant hoses, and radiator cap take on the task of meeting all your cooling needs.

Conclusion

Spoon's goal with this S2000 was to provide a pure, open-top sports car driving experience that anyone could match. Aside from the roof, you too can have an exact copy of this very car. Build it a piece at a time, get yourself out on the road and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
