The Interior
Oh, the interior. Everyone loves the way the S2000 looks. Everyone loves the double A-arm suspension and race car handling characteristics provided by the specially braced chassis. However, the moment you drop into the seat and realize it’s that crowded can either make it or break it in an instant. They’re great, just maybe not for extended time periods.

The Engine
It revs so high. It makes no torque. It has a Honda price tag. It’s still a Honda. All these things might go through your head at some point during S2000 ownership. This is normal and doctors have been prescribing things like turbochargers and superchargers to cure these problems for years. The F20C and F22C do leave something to be desired but manage to provide a great platform to build and grow from.

The AP1 is a lot like a puppy who chews up your furniture only instead of a puppy its a tail happy monster that wants to kill you every time you go into a braking zone too hot. How could such a cute car be designed this way? 1st gen S2000s are one of my favorite cars for the simple reason they will keep you on your toes the entire time you are at the limit. Not the best thing in terms of driver feel but exceptionally exciting.

Gearing
Funny how we’re all scared of the manual transmission dying when you think about the S2000. This is a manual transmission only car that you never have to take out of second gear. God help you if you ever run an autocross. I hope you are good at shifting into first gear all the time and then immediately shifting back to second gear for no reason. The struggle is real. Great gearbox other than that happening all the time.

Daily Veteran
If you daily an S2000 than you are a thoroughbred enthusiast that values the driving experience over everything else. AP1 and AP2 models will serve as reminders in the future of what a simple and pure sports car was meant to feel like. Although they have their quirks the pros outweigh the cons and they continue to be one of the best cars to own AND track.
