Michael Dailey's ASM S2000

At passing glance, Michael Dailey's 2003 AP1 Honda S2000 is another sports car with a nice paint job. Dig a little deeper and you'll realize this S2000 has shed it's Honda skin and now wears a paint job typically reserved for 911s. Panning from the ground up, the dark accents of the RX-7 side diffuser and the Forbidden USA carbon fiber hardtop really make the paint pop.

Sapphire Blue is the New Berlina Black

This AP1 left the Honda factory as 1 of approximately 1,032 Berlina Black S2000's produced for the 2003 model year. It's hard to argue the Sapphire Blue paint hasn't upped the curb appeal over the years being how beautiful it is. Clear diffuser headlights break up the Sapphire Blue paint job and also do a helluva job lighting up nocturnal roads. Peek a little lower and you'll see the front fascia is well ventilated for lengthy track sessions. The red tow hook is a not-so-subtle hint at what the owner's intentions are in his free time.

Not a Parking Lot Princess

As pretty as the Sapphire Blue paint is, this S2000 is purpose built. Dailey's goal is to turn the car into a track monster and he's well on his way. He's mid-build and has laid the foundation via a set of Fortune Auto 500 coilovers, a Cusco front strut tower brace, and a Beatrush rear performance brace. Inside, a MOMO MOD78 suede steering wheel is Dailey's choice of piloting equipment. A Blox black chrome shift knob is the driver's first point of contact when shifting the S2000's 6-speed manual transmission. A Deft Motion black burlap shift boot dresses up the base of the shifter.

Shoes Make the Outfit

Bailey upgraded the factory 16-inch wheels to 17-inch Rays Gram Light 57DRs. They're wrapped in Falken Azenis RT615K tires and fill the wheel well nicely. Tucked behind, are a set of slotted Stoptech rotors whose mission is to keep brake fade at bay. Clamping down on all four corners are Hawk HP+ brake pads to bring things back to legal speeds efficiently. They're fed by Stoptech stainless steel brake lines which should induce lower fluid temperatures. All three mods are essential for extended track use.

Naturally Aspirated, For Now

The AP1's naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder (codenamed the F20C) put out 237 horsepower at 8,300 RPM in US marketplace spec. Bailey's S2000 has a little extra motivation as a result of an AEM cold air intake cheeping things chilly under the hood. A T1R resonated test pipe leads into a T1R 70R-EM exhaust system and helps the S2000 sing all the way to its nearly 9,000 RPM redline. Bailey hasn't ruled out forced induction in the future so boost could be on the horizon No doubt, a Rotrex supercharger could really give this S2000 an edge on the track. The previously mentioned Cusco front strut tower brace dresses up the engine bay and helps with structural rigidity.

Headed Out Back

Low and wide is always a good recipe for a track build. This S2000's growth spurt comes courtesy of an ASM I.S. Design widebody kit. The widened bodywork allows the Falken tires to tuck in without incident.

The keen S2000 observer will notice the three-light AP2 taillights in place of the standard AP1's. North of that, a subtle Tamon spoiler tops off the rear decklid. I can't help but think a Club Racer inspired spoiler would make things a little more interesting.
