Default Track build - roll cage, seat, dash

I'm having my '05 S2000 (owned by me since birth) converted for w2w racing in SCCA STU. Pacific Throttle House in Sand City, CA (near Monterey and Laguna Seca) is doing the work, installing a new seat mount, roll cage, under-dash modifications, ECU and fire system. Phil Munoz is doing the fab work, with owner Mike Sweeney helping with other misc stuff. Kudos to Phil and Mike for their enthusiasm, taking on this project while setting up their new shop!

The sexy stuff (roll cage fitment) will take place over the next few weeks, with completion set for early April. The roll cage will have:
  • gutted A-pillars
  • driver-side Nascar bars, passenger side X-brace
  • trimmed OEM hardtop, transmission tunnel and door frame to fit cage and seat for max clearance
Car's also getting:
  • new custom widly-adjustable seat mount for my OMP HTE halo seat
  • QR steering wheel and column
  • under-dash HVAC/stereo/etc removal
  • Halltech plug n play ECU
  • Racepak display
  • Fire suppression system
  • harnesses/nets/restraints/etc.
I got my Regional SCCA license this past Sept, so my focus on the safety mods to make it race-ready. Other than the new ECU, the drivetrain is bone stock. As I gain experience (and have time!) I'll be putting in more go-fast stuff and installing lightness, but for now its safety and experience.

Here's some pics of progress to date, I'll post more as Phil progresses (and sends me the pics!). I'm targeting a Norcal track day in mid-April to shake it down. I hope to make a late-summer SCCA Regional, but my schedule is brutal so the inaugaral race is uncertain.

I like the tranny cut out.

curious as to why do you have a frame build out for the driver seat?? Cant you just mount the seat mount for the seat to the floor and reinforce them from the underside??

It just seems that you are losing headroom by have the frame build out?

Greg, on the seat. What is your height, weight, waist size and inseam? I have been looking at that seat, but am unsure if I will fit or it the X will fit in the car. How much head room do you have from the top when seated with helmet?

Good stuff Greg. I competed in STU last year and will be again this year. Will be at the season opener in 3 weeks?

Turn-r-us, I wanted an easily and widely adjustable seat, so Phil suggested this setup. At almost 6'1" the seat frame can move even further back then I need. It can also move way forward to accomodate someone much shorter. I'm not worried about head clearance, it's lower then my old Sparco Evo2+ on Buddy Club rails, in which I already passed the broomstick test with a Hard Dog bar and windshield frame. This 5-minute adjustability allows folks of widely differing heights to fit the car such as a track day for another driver (like my kids), an enduro (like the NASA 25) or as a selling point in the future. It is also very easy to fit another seat in if I want to change.

Stratocaster, I'm almost 6'1", weigh ~235lbs (a lean mean 190 with an extra 40-or-so in case Survivor calls for casting) with 38" waste 34" inseam jeans (jeez, it's like the NFL combine..."I like girls, am married, and don't do Facebook romances" ). I'll have to wait until Phil finishes the cage before I can get actual clearance dimensions. My OEM hardtop is stripped of the ceiling panel, so there really won't be any helmet verticle clearance issues at all. I'll see if I have a better pick of how high off the floorpan the seat mount sits.

My old Sparco Evo2+ fit perfectly, but didn't have the head restraint I wanted. I also wanted to test-sit a seat before buying it. I was gonna pick up a Racetech but their North American distributor in Reno didn't have stock to sit on. Wine Country Motorsports at Sonoma Raceway had the OMP HTE, it seemed to fit well enough for a 3-hour enduro, so I bought it for around $750. With my seat mount it will be very easy to change if needed (I can even swap out and test a few seats at a track day, if desired).

Cracknut, unfortunately I won't be making the SCCA opener. Right now only a remote chance for the Sept at Thunderhill. Other than that it's track days for shakedown.

Thanks, I sit in an EvoII but really should be in the Evo2+. Did you sit in both the Evo2 and Evo2+ before you bought the 2+? That goes to my next question, you picked the HTE and not the HTE XL, did you sit in both?

Stratocaster, I just looked at some google pics and saw the HTE does not visually differentiate XL from the base model. It's possible I bought an XL and didn't notice (it was the only HTE model Wine Country Motorsports had, it fit, so I bought it). I won't be able to verify until early April.
