bonnet release not working
I think you did really well to get the AA to come out for this - how is it classed as a breakdown? Good luck with getting it open.

So this morning I called the AA. A very nice man from Westbourne motors came down. removed undertray and wrestled with the catch for nearly an hour. Still stuck.
flat battery - and 'Home Start'
starting to think that Honda might be my best bet. Not sure I trust another garage to do this without breaking something.
I literally just had this problem also! Pulled the leaver a few times then had to try and fit my finger between the bonnet and the front bumper. Finally got it up then it didn't want to close, on closer inspection there was a ton of sand in the mechanism, blasted it with some WD40 seems to be okay now! Really need to try and clean the entire engine bay, but wouldn't know where to start !
At last.
OK. He is an alternate method that worked for me in about 2 minutes.
You need a thin wooden spatula. I found one in the kitchen. Get someone to pull the bonnet release. Ideally not the wife who will be asking continuously where you got said spatula and hopes it wasn't from her kitchen.!!
Slide the spatula between the bonnet and the bumper around the place where the release catch is. There should be enough give in the rubber seal to allow it to slide in quite easily without any significant pressure on the panels. Its then just a case of wiggling it around until you hear the bonnet pop. I suspect this is once it catches on the release cam.
Then it's a case of cleaning out the ton of gunk on the mechanism. It wasn't until I had applied copious amounts of WD40 that I revealed there were 2 springs behind it. It is easier to do this if you remove the cover panel (3 small screws).
Now I can charge the battery and make the most of the sunshine this weekend.
