Default Suggestions for current stereo head units?

Hi everyone, I've read through the "S2000 audio/video systems" thread and numerous other threads but a lot of the information isn't current (head units seem to have a short production life).

I'd like suggestions for current head units that the S2000 community has experience with. I plan on using the modifry dci and also upgrading front coaxial speakers. I was looking at the Kenwood KDC-X697 but it seems that it is now discontinued. I have had good luck with JVC in the past but am open to all suggestions.

My requirements are:
-Must have rear USB port and be compatible with iphone 5
-Must allow radio door to close properly

Thanks!

I just ordered a Kenwood kdc-x998 and the modifry DCI unit. It has a rear USB and its compatible with iPhone 5. I'm still waiting for both to arrive so I can't comment on how it works but I was in the same boat as you. Couldn't find much current info on modern head units.

I will be definitely going Kenwood. People may think its stupid, but I think the 22 watts rms does make a difference when using the HU amp.

I will be going with the cheapest BT, with the better three line display. Maybe a KDC BT855 or BT858 or X series.

FYI, go with component speakers in the front. Vastly better sound, see my post referencing Hertz.

I have a Pioneer DEH80PRS that has 2 USB ports in rear, works on my iPhone and the radio door closes. It's a bit pricey though, but I bet there are some cheaper Pioneer units that have similar capabilities.

I don't keep track of these things. I'd just suggest looking at Alpine, Kenwood, & Pioneer since Modifry has PnP harnesses for them that make install a snap.

FYI you can "massage" the 90 degree side brackets a little bit to allow the unit to sit a little bit deeper, and then the door won't contact the button at all.
