Default How I got Hooked on the S2K

Ok, so I'm completely hooked on the S2K after owning one for just a couple of weeks. But the story started earlier than this.

I was visiting friends on Gabriola Island who recently bought a 2000 Silverstone AP1, and one drive around the Island, with me in the passenger seat, was all it took. After mulling it over for a couple of months, I couldn't stand it any longer and took the plunge. Looked at four S2Ks at the HondaWay dealership in Abbotsford and quickly settled on the Suzuka Blue because it was an AP2 in showroom condition, had less than 38K (23K miles) on the clock, and had the nicer dark blue interior. (And I look good in blue )

Paid another visit to Gabriola in the "new" car and caught my friends completely by surprise. That alone was worth the trip.

Here's a photo of the two cars at Berry Point road:

This photo was taken at Locarno Beach:

(I have only one problem so far ... I keep reaching for the non-existent clutch pedal in my CR-V)

So ... anyone else care to share how they became an S2K owner? I'm hoping it'll make for an interesting thread

EDIT: I must say HondaWay has been great to work with fixing a couple of small issues (and no, I am not connected with them in any way other than as a satisfied customer).

I took the plunge and bought mine from a friend while it was in pieces just because it came with a right hand drive clip. never drove an s2000, and never went for a ride in one. Not the ideal situation to purchase the car, but i definitely don't regret it

Holy Smokes! You really did take a leap of faith, but of course it was a good decision in the end. I expect you've turned a few heads in top-down weather.

Sadly, I understand the BC government will be banning the importing of RHD cars in the near future. Existing RHDs won't be affected, but it blocks future Japanese and British used-car imports.

I bought my S from Victoria. Making the trip out there was doubily exciting because I had never been to Vancouver island and I was buying my dream car there. I'll always remember the first glimpse of it as my dad and I turned onto the parking lot to meet the owner. Along with the smell of the interior and the surreal moment when I turned on the engine and went for my first test drive in an S. It was a wet overcast day and I remember freacking myself out a little bit as the back came a bit loose as turning onto an onramp. I couldn't keep my eyes of it while we were having lunch at the terminal restaurant waiting for the ferry, and I still turn around and steal a glimpse as I get out of it. I could go on but I'll remember the sights, sounds and smells of that day forever.

It seems I mis-interpreted the original article I read somewhere last year ... my bad! According to these links:

and
. http://www.delica.ca/manuals/Satellite.pdf

Both of these links are rather old now, so I'm not aware of any recent changes to the rules. But it would appear imports are not being banned, just more carefully controlled. ICBC seems rather concerned about the crash rates. I've heard there's an import dealer somewhere in New Westminster that's doing a booming business.

They have stopped insuring them in Quebec from what I understand. I will do some research. To be honest though I think it is just a matter of time before the RHD will not be insurable here. I know there have been discussions around it.

Lol, I don't have much of a story to tell. I saw one listed, went to look at it; didn't end up buying it. Test drove an AP2 & and AP1. Ended up buying an AP2 in Minnesota.

A little more detail here.
