Going for a remap
Hi all,
Just trying to get opinion/information.
Having now fitted a new K&N intake, stainless cat-back exhaust, de-cat and exhaust manifold I figured I had better get it remaped so I have booked it in at TDi North on the 2nd September 2014. however before taking it down I am going to do a full fluid change oil, transmission etc. I guess I just have a few questions.
1) Has anyone dealt with TDi before? (any good?)
2) Is there anything else I should do before taking car down?
3) Any further information?
Thanks in advance.
Liam

I'd make sure the plugs and coils are in good nick, run some injector cleaner through and maybe get the valve clearances done.
Out of interest how are they going to tune it ? Do they use Hondata Flashpro at TDi North ? (looking at your alloys I'm guessing you have a Drive By Wire version)

thanks for the response.
Yeah will be using a hondata, which has been ordered, car is MY06 so dbw. I done a full service 7K (about 8 month) ago including changing plugs and fluids etc. also checked valve clearances but suppose it cant harm to check them again.
Decided to change fluids again this weekend coming so car will be at 'optimum' before mapping.
yeah I had heard you can run lean I believe with these mods which is why I booked it in as soon as I fitted the manifold and decat at the weekend, the intake and exhaust have been on a little longer, but will only be driving un-mapped for about 2 weeks so as long as I avoid "TEC-ing" everywhere should be ok.
Cheers guys!

The DBW don't have an IACV do they ? I was thinking a clean of the throttle body and any built in idle air channels might also be a good thing to do too.
No idea if this applies to the F20C but I did read that having an adjustable fuel pressure regulator allows you to increase pressure and have shorter injector periods - the theory being that while the injector is open it disturbs the air flow so a short period is better. Might be worth speaking with TDi to think if that's something they think is worthwhile.

I will speak to TDi/research about fuel pressure regulator - not something I had considered.
Thanks

TDI North know their stuff from what I gather. At the TDI South rolling road day a few years back they had the TDI North developed turbo s2000 there which was running at only 500 bhp at the time (capable of much more) with anti lag, and that car has been running for quite a few years now I think.
Naturally I assume you'll be getting you VTEC point lowered? That makes a great difference to the drivability of the car. You can set a 'vtec window' I think it is called. If in the window, on more than 30% throttle (you can set this %) and past certain revs (eg 5000) it will engage VTEC, if less (eg cruising at 20% throttle) it won't engage, unless you hit the top of the window (say 5800), then it will engage regardless. When mine was set I think it was 1/3 throttle at 5200 or above, although I've read of quite a few people dipping below 5k for the start of the vtec window.

Too lean. Some dispute it but I've seen it with my own beady eyes! In fact only the other week TDi posted on Facebook a K20 Honda with breathing mods running dangerously lean.

I'd also be very careful with revving your engine hard with all that stuff fitted and no remap - my limited understanding is that you can run too rich or somesuch.
