hard dog vs rockstar (roll bar)
Hey guys not sure if this is in the right area and yes i have done some searching but unfortunately i could not find a straight answer. Now as title states which brand roll bar do you prefer? i was leaning towards rockstar but i know that harddog has been around for awhile. Is one strong then the other or they the same? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
I had Rockstar tell me that there were advantages to their bar, but they didn't elaborate. I bought and installed a new Hard Dog bar last weekend, so feel free to ask me any questions about the install. If you haven't read the instructions with no pictures and 86 steps, then realize that you have to cut your wheel wells to place the backing plate. That was the hardest part of the install.
The reason you haven't gotten a straight answer is that there isn't one.
I voted Rockstar on price for a basic rollbar.
The Rockstar is $650 with a welded single diagonal, welded lowered harness bar, and seatbelt guides.
The Hard Dog is $550 base, plus $55 for the welded single diagonal, $55 for the welded harness bar (high or low) and $60 for the seatbelt guides, for a total of $720.
The Rockstar is 4130 chrome-moly, which is stronger than mild steel for the Hard Dog. The difference is probably not meaningful in this relatively simple application. The original motiviation for using chrome-moly is that the sanctioning groups allowed use of smaller, or thinner tubing to save weight. That is no longer true, so you can get a stronger bar, but not a lighter one.
Caveats;
1. Rockstar is 4130 chrome-moly and can't be modified without special welding methods. You don't want this if you ever plan to modifiy it, or convert it to a roll-cage.
2. Rockstar comes with the lowered harness bar. If you want the normal harness bar, you have to get the Hard Dog

Wow thanks guys
So what's the difference between the rockstar lower harness bar and the hard dog harness bar? Also is anything different besides the appearance between the double and single diagonal bar on the rockstar roll bar?

I vote RSG because thats what I have. I got mine a few years ago and it is a very nice solid piece. I have the bulkhead replacement bar as well and that works well.
The lower harness bar is the correct location for a harness to be safe but it interferes with the stock hoops. The upper or "normal" harness bar is designed to work with the stock hoops but the angle is unsafe for actually mounting a harness.
The double diagonal (DD) seems like it would be a little stronger, but the main thing is that you can put the center console back in with the DD.

He can ship you a bolt-in or weld in bar.

My understanding is that the normal harness bar location is always going to be too high to be used.
