I don't think you'll see or feel much gain with a test pipe. Our cat is a pretty high flow unit already. About the only time you might see any measureable gain is on a F.I. car and even then, the gain will be comensurate with how the rest of it's tuned (or not tuned).
Having no cat will give you a different exhaust sound. Some may say it's deeper, while others may say it's louder or both. Then there will be those who will tell you that without the cat, your exhaust will stink like rotten eggs and other motorists will gawk at you for all the wrong reasons.
True that it will liberate your car of some significant weight. That cat is not a lightweight.
I've been running without one since the end of winter and it is very loud at high revs (I'm S/Cd) and my exhaust does stink. I do however, "feel" just a bit more punch but who knows? The butt dyno can lie. On my lastest 3500 mile vacation, I recorded a loss of about 1 miles/per gallon from last summer. The only difference being the absence of the cat and my Volk rims. As the rims are lighter than my OEM ones, I don't think they contributed much.
I am considering putting the cat back on after the next winter. Not sure yet.

Thanks guys.
I'm getting the one fom Megan's,100% S.S.,with built in resonator;should be less "boomy"maybe not quite as loud.
This should free the exhaust flow, even if our cat.is a low restriction one,as it consist of a perforated straight tube, and only weighs 9 pounds.
Let's hope for a 2-3 h.p.increase !!!

Emil, look at this link:

Essentially the test pipe gives you peak HP at very high revs. Trade off, increased noise, stinky exhaust, and not being street legal. How's the Securite?

i've had a test pipe for about 1700 miles now and it doesn't stink like everyone claims it does. yeah i am concerned about not being street legal but the increase in power and the nice exhaust note sort of makes up for it.

Thank's .
Dont forget, the test pipe (megan) has a built-in resonator, wich should make it a little less noisy, while not hurting perf.
As far as not being legal, and clean,I think it will be as clean,if not cleaner, than a lot of Taxi cabs, and old farths Sunday drivers, blowing blue smoke.
all over the place!
I wouldn't spend $2500.00 on exhaust and headers to gain 10 H.P.,but I feel confortable to spend $100.00 on a test pipe to gain 2-3 H.P. and lose 15 -20 pounds.
You know,a couple h.p.+ a couple there,it adds up.!!!

Sure it doesn't smell ... unless you're the guy behind you're car.

IMHO unless you're running WOT all the time, like racing, a test pipe is just not a responsible thing to do for such a small increase that would be used maybe 1% of the time on the street. Hell if you want real power why not just run open headers with ear plugs.
