Thumbs up New SAE HP Ratings?

Just read on edmunds.com that the Society of Automotive Engineers have established a new standard for horsepower ratings that all of the automakers intend to comply with. Here's a quote from the article:

"Toyota and Honda, in particular, have had to downgrade the horsepower ratings of some of their vehicles from the 2005 to 2006 model years as a result of this new system. Even though it features the same 3.0-liter V6 engine, the Toyota Camry has seen its output rating reduced in one model year from 210 to 190 horsepower."

Anyone now if this is going to impact the S2000?

What you didn't get from that article is ONLY TOYOTA AND HONDA retested their entire line.

Every other manufacturer is only testing new or enhanced powertrains. If everyone else stepped up to the plate, I'm sure you'd see power declining across almost everyone's lines. The domestics seem to be leading the "smear campaign" when they don't have the gall to test their entire lines.

I don't think this will impact the S2000 as the 04+ models seem to put down over 240HP, according to dynometers.

What are you smoking?!?! I thought that the AP2 had same HP rating, but higher torque and a wider powerband. All the graphs I have seen are right around 200 whp.

nah it's pretty well established that the 2.2L puts down about 10-15 more rwhp. Bigger displacement, peak HP at 100 rpms less. It's what you'd expect.

on a dynojet dyno (which accounts for wheel losses), and dyno'ing on the same day, same dyno, the ap2 puts down between 5-10whp more, and about 3-7wtq more.

Yeah, I keep reading here that one of them is much better than the other. I just can never remember which one it is. If it's not the one I have, I want the other one.
Thanks,

while the AP2 does put down more, it is pretty much established that the AP1 and AP2 are about equally as fast overall.

the AP2 puts down more peak, but the AP1 has a longer high end powerband overall when taking gearing into account.

Didnt Honda keep the peak HP ratings the same? Does the AP2 put more to the crank, or have they just eliminated some drivetrain losses?

Here we go again!!!!
