I also took sandpaper to my SE.....
After 10 months of owning my Greddy SE, and seeing Chilicokes modified SE exhaust, I decided it was time for a change. I have been running a test pipe the whole time, done a track day, and some pretty hard running. My exhaust tips had gotten very golden in color, and the burnt blue was starting to fade from being cleaned. I found some great metal polish, but found after a few uses, it was starting to remove the burnt finish. In the begining I loved the burnt tips, but my tastes have changed slightly and I wanted something cleaner and more subtle.
Luckily I had a friend help me, so it took the two of us about 5 hours to do the job. I unbolted and removed the rear section of the exhaust, and brought it into the air conditioned house (was 110 in AZ that day). We started with 600 grit, then 1000, 1500, 2000. Then used a few different rubbing compounds and metal polish. A hand held electric polisher, and a buffing wheel on the end of a cordless drill were used in the final stages. Spent the most time buffing and polishing to get the small scratches out. So far I really like the look, but I am still not used to it. Its certainly cleaner looking. On to the pics!!

Thanks guys!
The blue is applied to the tips by a heating process. I do not know Greddy's actual process, but the coloring is actually burned into the metal. It is burned in fairly deep, and required a lot of sanding with 600 grit to remove it all.
