Default Gordon Murray T.27

The more I see of Mr Murray's T.25/T.27, the more I like it. There's a hint of a McLaren F1 'spine' in the roof too!

My guess is we'll see a shed-load of imitators as small is definitely where it's at - BMW are on the case and Smart appear to be resurrecting the Roadster.

Interesting times.

It's brilliant. There's faar more F1 in the door/wing treatment.

Cannot see many people actually wanting to buy one though.

People still seem to be too insecure generally not to want a 'proper' car; telephone kiosk cars are not macho enough and are perceived as 'dangerous'.

It's a real pastiche styling-wise; Lancia Y10 rear-three quarters, Isetta front (squashed!), with a soupcon of Quasar motorcycle - but I like it.

You have a point about perceived safety, but Smart, Mercedes (A-Class) and Toyota (iQ) have done al lot of work to convince purchasers that small cars can be and are safe.

As for demand, if the price is close to what Murray is suggesting, it will sell itself IMHO.

I think Murray is a genius but I don't see these selling. The aesthetics will just not appeal to the mass market. Essentially the car is ugly and not to the general public's taste IYAM.

The other example of this was the Fiat Multipla - TG car of the year, many otehr awards but pig ugly and never sold in the numbers that a better looking car would have done.

Exactly. It's of particular importance to the female buyer, in particular. Generally, unconventional isn't good.

Which explains why most modern cars are all the bloody same. I know people have always said that, but the homogeneity is getting more pervasive.

Nick you're right, but Murray's design does make the driver look like they are someone who left the sunshine bus got his own license and their first car.

I like it but it certainly is ugly from the rear

The central driving position will also save the company lots of dosh for Euro & US market

It's a Smart and nothing more; Merc have been doing it for years.

Not big or particularly clever, quite literally

Would it have more mass appeal if it wasn't in matt black?

I don't know a great deal about this car but some of the engineering and design are impressive. Murray clearly knows what he's doing, but the achilles heel is the look of it. Maybe if they tint the windows so you can't see the occupier then people many think about buying one.

Also my understanding is that you can fit three of these in a normal parking bay if you park at 90 degrees to the pavement. My understanding was that you aren't allowed to part like this for some strange reason
