Default Helmet

Chaps

Please help me decide, i am torn between getting an open face helmet and a closed.

I got the Oulton Park track day in 2 weeks time and i am wanting to get a new helmet.

People have told me that they have used an open face at Oulton and other tracks and then there are people saying it needs to be a closed face one.

I've never been on a trackday where a full face has been required on an S2000. Bookatrack and Trackaction don't request one.

I use open face.

Only benefit I can see to a fullf ace is if you want to passenger lap in a Caterham, or drive one at some point.

Just get a closed face one.

You can always remove the visor but it keeps your options open for the future.

I thought some trackday organisers required a full face helmet for use in a soft top car, but might be wrong.

Open face has better visibility and therefore better for motorsport.

It depends on the application...

An open face helmet will be fine in the S2000; however, as stated above, if you were to acquire/drive/ride in a more track focussed car with no windsreen then a full face would be required.

I have both - one for rallying (open) and one from my karting days (full).

Full face helmet:

Advantages
1) More protection if something goes wrong (cross fingers)
2) Can use it everywhere, all tracks even in motorbikes

Dissadvantages
1) Heavier and less comfy
2) Less visibility

The oposite things stand for the open face helmet

Or you could get an open face with a visor, like the Arai SZ-F?

(I got 3 full face and 2 open face helmets)

I was in a similar situation recently and went for a full face helmet just because it covered more situations, like karting, Caterham driving and possible future motorbiking.
