Default Cracked Turbo Manifold

This thread isn't intended to bash MASE or his kit, and I hope it doesn't turn into one. I'm just putting this out there for other MASED s2k's FYI.

I love my kit and hope I can continue to run this setup with some slight modification to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I have about 2500 miles on the setup on no more then 7psi as I don't have it tuned for high boost yet. I've been playing it safe IOT not blow anything up before I can get my car on a mag cover.

I usually give my car a good visual inspection every so often. Today happened to be that day. I was about to go too a Cars n Coffee meet here in Pheonix this morning. So I wanted to get it outa the way before the trip.

This is what I discovered. (Sorry I didn't think to take pics of it before I pulled it off the car).

I had noticed what seemed like a loss of power last week sometime but I didn't listen to my gut and just figured maybe I was getting used to the added power already. It almost seemed very gradual.
The one thing that sticks out in my mind from last week was when I was on my way home from school. On the off ramp of the freeway I took the car out of gear and started to coast. But as soon as I pushed the clutch in and let off the gas my car stalled at 90MPH. Puzzled I put it back into 6th and let the clutch out slow, she started right back up and kept purring. Everything was FINE after that but I think that was the beginning of something. The next couple of times I drove her I noticed the RPM would get so low the car would almost stall. Almost as if the turbine wasn't spinning the compressor enough due too the pressure release from the crack and started restricting air flow.

I've emailed Mase on the issue already. I'm pretty sure he'll not only warranty repair/replace the manifold but, hopefully have or come up with a remedy to prevent this from happening again.

I'll keep the thread updated as soon as I know whats what..

And why not take the chance to whore out my car.

Figured this would happen with no brace holding the manifold. A member had a sidewinder setup rewelded his with a brace and also welded a plate between the wastegate flange and the flange on the mani.

I would think he would cover this, if you bought it from him and not used. If you bought it used then I think he could charge you for the repair. It does seem like there would be a lot of weight on that part though.

Call Mase. He's great about fixing issues. He updated the manifold design and he has a brace on the wg flange now and also a brace on the turbo.

Anyone have a pic of the updated mani with braces? Curious to see how it compares to the bracing T1 did for me.

Don't really have a price because they did it when they installed the whole thing. I'd guess a couple hundred or so, though, probably less. They did a pretty trick extension and brace with a flex pipe for the dump tube after the fact and that wasn't much more.

That said, the reason I'm interested is mine is braced down by the motor mount. We couldn't then go adding brace at the top of the mani because you'd have heat expansion pushing the two braces apart doing bad things,

I'm curious about the Mase fix, though, because it seems a brace up top might help with the resonance at 2-3k rpm there the whole turbo turns into a blur it's vibrating so much.
