Default Beauty and the beast

Well, amidst the beauty of spring in the yard (this tree is always amazing for about 3 days), there's this beast of a hole which I have permanently decomissioned. Those of you who attended the s2ki party over here a few years ago can remember it in its glory. Hey, 33 years is a pretty good run for a pool, don't ya' think! Anyway, this kinda' changes the look of things.

Any plans for that area of the yard?

Those trees are beautiful until the flowers fall.

Our neighbor has one. I snapped a couple shots of it this weekend.

This tree is planted between the driveways (not the best spot) so when the blooms fall, our cars are a mess.

Rick washed and covered the S today. Between the blooms and the pollen, it's better undercover for a few days, since it's not a DD.

Mosquitos must love that puddle of water stagnating in the bottom of your pool haha. Epic tree though, is it a cherry blossom?

I think it's some sort of cherry, nofear. Not sure.

I'm using physics to drain the pool right now to save cost powering the pump. That puddle is rapidly shrinking and will be gone soon.

No, no plans, Lainey. I'm pricing what it'll cost to fill in, and I'm not sure I will do it in the near future. I have no good access to the rear of my house for construction equipment, so it's problematical.

I view the pool as a distant issue right now, so I don't expect to do anything about it in the near future given other priorities.

Pools are tough, I never could quite justify the cost/work to keep them running.

Another thumbs down on pools here. Lakes, rivers and oceans are the way to go.

I'm *really* happy we had the pool for the years we did. The kids grew up with it (for all the pain and fright that caused).

Plus, we had great times and social engagements at my house over the years, including hosting a bunch of international miscreants from s2ki.com years back .

*But*, it's simply a matter of economics now. I can't afford it, particularly since it's a low priority. Pools do not add (in fact you could argue they detract) from the value of a house. The pool almost dissuaded us from buying our house back in '97 even though I'm thrilled we had it all those years. I hope this isn't a mistake, and I really wish I *could* justify the expense of filling in the yard, but it's not in the cards right now.

Pools definitely reduce the book value of your home, at least in the midwest and northeast.

Entirely coincidental, but I was digging through my RAID array last night looking for a file and came across "poolincident.zip"... good times
