I had that CEL code when I first bought my car and I had to change the thermostat. My car used to take a long time to warm up.

CEL only comes on the cold mornings. My car warms up fine like it normally does. Should I still replace the thermostat?? or could it be something else? I dont want to spend 50.00 and it ends up not being the problem.

someone chime in please. billman where you brother??? lol

8 bars is normal for an AP2. Are you running an aftermarket thermostat (lower temp)?

I just had that code and it was my thermostat stuck open, but my car would not warm up properly, so it was a sure bet for me. My thermostat had a piece of metal lodged in it from my aftermarket radiator, I wouldn't expect that to happen to many others out there though. If your car warms up properly I'd clear it and see if it returns.

If your thermostat is stock, then that code means that it's a bad thermostat (probably stuck open). May not be a bad thing if you live in a warm climate or if you track your car as your engine will be kept cooler. This issue won't impact performance of your car.

I've been through the same code a few times. I have a Koyo radiator, Spoon thermostat (which I hear opens at much cooler temps), switch, and an aftermarket intake manifold gasket. I've learned that if I take it above 4000rpm without letting the engine warm up to the normal operating temperature (3 bars on an AP1) it will trigger that code. Give yourself some time to warm up the motor and take it easy for the first couple miles before getting on it more. Just stay below 4k rpms until you see the normal amount of bars on your temp gauge (Idk what it is for AP2's, 8 bars?) Mine takes forever to warm up and I live in Hawaii! Good luck!

The car is looking to achieve a certain temp in a set amount of time based on a variety of parameters, Air temp, load, etc. Almost always is a thermostat with a weak spring opening a little too quickly for the computers taste. Very common code on a variety of cars. Have seen this code triggered buy a very dirty air filter causing scewed air temp readings a time or two as well. Check the car over, filter clean, coolant full, etc. If no issues def. gonna be a faulty thermostat about 95 out of 100 times. BTW normal operating temp for 06+ is 8 bars on the guage.
