QUICK ITINERARY
(A complete detailed itinerary will be emailed to you prior to the event - you are encouraged to PRINT and BRING with you to the event) Note that Monday through Thursday are not part of Wake The Dragon 10 but there will be people at Fontana Lodge early. This is a great time to renew friendships and make new ones. We'll see you at Fontana Lodge on Friday morning for the official start of WTDx or for some of the unofficial events if you get there earlier.
Monday, April 9: A few people will be arriving on Monday (or earlier). Nothing planned but if you'd like to drive the Dragon with little traffic, Monday and Tuesday are the best days. You might see one or two other cars. You're on your own.
Tuesday, April 10: See Monday above. The second day of very few cars and very little traffic.
Wednesday, April 11: We'll be leaving Fontana from the upper parking lot on Wednesday morning around 10:00am and headed out to drive Rt 226A (The Diamondback Route). Rt 226A is a hill-climb with numerous switch-backs and interesting curves. We'll drive to Asheville and take Rt 80 (MDW (my darling wife) says that if Rt 129 is the Dragon, Rt 80 should be the Anaconda. A very interesting drive with some 90 degree switchbacks and off-camber turns) to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and then head for Mt. Mitchell, the highest mountain on the East Coast. We'll drive to the top of the mountain and spend some time and take pictures. After Mt Mitchell, we'll head back down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Little Switzerland, take a break, and drive Rt 226A down the mountain, turn around and drive back to Little Switzerland. Both ways present interesting challenges. After a day of driving Rt 226A and exploring Little Switzerland, we'll head to Asheville for dinner. While it won't be the 4 (okay, 8) courses we had last year, I guarantee you'll leave full.. After dinner, we'll head back to Fontana and drive Rt 28 from Robbinsville. If you've never driven Rt 28 at night, you're in for a treat (unless you happen to be the opossum who decided to commit suicide by sitting in the middle of the road last year). We should be back at Fontana around 9:30pm.
Thursday, April 12: We'll leave the upper parking lot at Fontana Lodge around 12:30pm to head for Maryville, TN to meet the Cincy gang and then we'll head to Gatlinburg for dinner at Park Grill. After dinner, we'll head back to Fontana on the Smoky Mtn Parkway to the intersection with Rt 129. We'll stop there and split up into two groups. One group will be people who have driven the Dragon at night and want to do a spirited drive back to Deal's Gap. The second group will be the newbies and people who just want to enjoy a nice leisurely drive across the Dragon to Deal's Gap.
Friday, April 13: Morning: Tech Day with Billman at the Wildwood Grill Parking lot.
W1ngman (and/or I) will be leading a “moderate” lunch drive along Hwy 28 to Franklin, NC. This will be a scenic drive following posted speeds + 5mph. The drive will leave Fontana, from the parking area in front of the Wildwood Grill. around 10:00am. Lots of Dragon driving and be sure to check out surrounding roads for a great time. Many folks will arrive on this day (many arrive earlier). Plan to attend the Registration gathering which will be held at Fontana Village in the evening, including a beer swap& bonfire. You'll need to pick up your registration packet which will include your event credentials. Be sure to wear your lanyard and nametag to join in (this will serve as your MEAL pass for Saturday night and admission to all activities). Lots of great times to be had.
We'll also have an early registration and "First Timer's Orientation" and "Dragon Buddy" ride-along on Friday morning. Check the final itinerary for exact time and meeting location. If this is your first Dragon event, we encourage you to join in and meet some other first timers and learn tips on driving your S2000 on the Dragon. Various group drives will also be available during the day on Friday; most of which include a stop for lunch along the way.
Saturday, April 14th: The official "DAY" of the event. We'll roll out from Fontana as a large S2000 group - great for video lovers and those wanting great pics of all the S2000s. Dragon driving...and lots of it is on the agenda. We'll have a group photo at the end of the Dragon, and then you can check out a variety of Group Drives (these will be organized drives on various roads surrounding the Dragon) that will offer lunch options. If you choose not to do any of the drives, you are welcome to continue driving the Dragon, explore the area on your own or go back to relax at the lodge. Dinner will be served in the Carolina Room in the main Fontana Village Lodge. We'll enjoy a banquet style dinner with a recap of our event and likely a presentation to follow.
Sunday, April 15th: Say goodbye to fellow S2000 enthusiasts. Some folks will be driving the Dragon, but the majority will be leaving on this day.
We look forward to seeing you on the Dragon!

Evil, it's above in bold red. March 23rd is the absolute cut off. There may be a limited number of extra t-shirts available but typically less than 10 total with only Large and XLarge as they are the most popular sizes.
