Default Exhausts including Japspeed?

I'm after some opinions preferably from experience on which exhausts are best for the pre 2004 s2000. Which exhausts if any are likely to give a power increase without reducing the little torque they have? Has anybody fitted a japspeed system on these and was it anygood? They seem to be pretty cheap, is this because they're crap for the car generally or because they're a bugger to fit?

Any info would be great.

Thanks Steve

P.S: Do the facelift 17" wheels fit straight on the pre-facelift? And does the K&n induction kit do the car any favours?

Yes the 17" wheels fit on all years of the S2k including pre MY04.

The K&N FIPK debate is far reaching and controversial, they can suffer from heat soak purely because they are in the engine bay, but I have one and the only time I suffered from it was in a poorly ventilated dyno room/shed where a proper Cold Air intake with the bonnet cut out was much better, from Tegiwa I believe. However, the intake temps were measured outside the dyno room and they were exactly the same, so you takes your money and makes yer choice!

Max power with an exhaust you need a single really and from the likes of J's Racing/Spoon Racing/Powerhouse Amuse or a sodding good copy. You also need a good manifold (the PLM Manifold from the states is pretty affordable at about £320 delivered and has proven gains, its a good copy of the J's Racing manifold. Problem is you need a engine torque damper or harder engine mounts to stop it touching on the steering rack) and a decat really.

And after all that, you need the car remapped with a piggyback or AEM standalone.

Couldn't say on Japspeed, never dealt with them, but modifying an S2k is far from cheap. The engines are so well tuned from the factory that extracting more NA is a bit torturous.

IMO/IME poorly knocked together exhausts that dont quite fit perfect overall mediocre at most - you get what you pay for.

I have one on my 350z. It was a bugger to fit but sounds really decent. I have no idea what it's done for power. Just guessing that you have to be a little bit more careful with the s2000's not to ruin the torque. Thanks for the responses everyone. Very helpful. I guess you're right in what you're saying. It's tuned to the max already so probably cant be improved anymore through N/A mods. So long as I'm not going to ruin it by replacing the system with a Japspeed.

Oh no, you can improve it through NA mods, but you just have to be really careful about which ones you choose!

At least Japspeed drones like hell. I felt that my head would explode any time when I drove an S2000 with Japspeed exhaust. Maybe it's just me who don't like loud and drony exhausts...

No its not, which is why I would always spend decent money on an exhaust!
