I'm an idiot - Siezed slider pin
For the last few days, the old girl has been making a squeaking noise every now and again from her rear end (The car, not the wife).
It was nothing much so thought I'd wait until the weekend to check it out.
On the way home from work, it started getting much much worse.
All the way home, I've got the windows open and am listening intently while I try and get it to make the noise. Speeding up, slowing down, corners, swerving about when it's safe. After about 20 mins, I'm convinced it's a wheel bearing. Arse.
Now I have to go to work in the Civic and start dreading pulling a rear hub off and replacing the bearing (And who I know with a press).
Get home, jack the car up and try the wheel.
Fine. No hint of a wobble.
Wheel off, spin the hub. Noise still there.
OK, sounds like brakes then.
Pads out, spin hub, no noise.
OK, it's pads or caliper.
Check a pad, loads of meat, dismiss pads as the issue.
Wheel wasn't hot when I got home and piston spins easily in the caliper.
OK, that's not sticking.
Bugger.
Go to re-fit pads and realise the back pad is looking much lower than the front.
Re fit, spin disk....squeak.
Hmmmmm..........
Remove pads, spin disk... no noise.
Look at pads again but this time notice that there's a metal loop on the back of the pad (Let's call it a wear indicator for ease of reference later) that scrapes the disk.
Perhaps that is what has been making the noise.
It's a good job it squeaked, otherwise I would have never noticed the low back pad.
Came inside, had a fag and 5 mins later the penny dropped.
I've had the calipers and most of the rear end of the old girl apart more times than I care to count but today, for some reason, I was a idiot.
