Default New windscreen.

Driving to uni this morning I got overtook (illegally) by two pricks I assume that we're racing each other, and they sprayed the front of my car with stones! Now I can accept a few more stone chips on my car, I'll just add them to the millions I've got already. What royally f@#ked me off was the massive stone that was flicked up SMASHING MY FECKING WINDSCREEN!

I'm now going to need a new windscreen which I assume is best done through my insurance.

Are there any specific details I need as I'm sure I read months and months ago to be careful when replacing the windscreen.

(Can't use the search right now, phone doesn't like it somehow)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Not that I know of. Just need to pay your windscreen excess on your insurance, normally around £80 and done through AutoGlass.

Search is currently broken (again). I've reported it to the Admins.

Good timing, I'm getting a new windscreen tomorrow too, and am a little apprehensive.

I've read the threads about non-OEM windscreens not fitting well or having a poor rear-view mirror boss, and so tried to insist on an OEM part. Turns out Admiral only cover "standard" (i.e. non-OEM?? ) screens, if I want a Honda one I have to pay for the whole thing!! Pretty annoying as I didn't see that in the small print, and I don't see how a manufacturer part is non-standard...

Are there any checks I can do before the guy leaves to make sure the mirror fitment is correct etc?

I think the rubber seal has been an issue for some people too. Also the fitter my need to touch up the paint on the inner window frame as a scuff could lead to rust

If you do have problems with the rear view mirror, just keep calling them back via Admiral, till they get it right to your satisfaction or they get fed up with you telling them and fit a honda screen. PITA I know but it works.

If you see the offending twunts again get their number and report it to Admiral and the cops.

Just had mine replaced 2 weeks ago by auto glass no problem at all
perfect fit
nothing wrong with aftermarket window as long as the guy fitting it knows what he is doing.
the guy who fittem mine said he had more problems with the rubbers in the past rather than ill fittind windscreens

Same here. No issues. It's nice not having to look through chips with the low level sunlight we get at this time of the year.

You may well be referring to this thread, from when I had mine replaced in late 2010:

Hope it helps.

Make sure you INSIST on a OEM Honda screen!! I didn't initially and then spent over a month pushing them to change it (which eventually they did)!

The rear mirror boss on the aftermarket screen was situated too high up which meant that the dazzle flick didn't work and that when looking through the mirror I constantly had the reflection of the roof lining in my view!
