Its more of a design issue... The engine has too come out for almost everything... Starter goes bad?engine out.. Want down pipes? Engine out. O2 sensor? Engine out. Timing belt? Dissemble entire front end to change it. Its crazy.

Belgian Quads are what got me into craft beer in the first place! I would definitely be interested in the Heavy Engine!

Not an ISF, but fits your budget, better gas mileage than an ISF, and owned by a current S2000 guy.

Bleh. The IS250 is a pile of junk. There's a ton of issues with the powertrain and are the most unreliable lexus they have ever produced. The later generation (facelift) actually has significant changes to the 2.5L v6 powertrain to combat this. They also have issues like any other DI only engine with carbon buildup that's a real pain to take care of on that setup.

The other thing is, they are terrible to drive because of how underpowered the 2.5L V6 is for such a heavy car. That particular example is extremely overpriced and in range of just getting a good 350 or F.

350 or bust. Oh, and get one with the 6 speed. The 8's suck unless you have an F and even then they're pretty mediocre. The gear ratios they chose for the 8's makes my head hurt because they feel so dog slow. It's not even a matter of drag racing it or trying to be a douche at a light, they just lack the oomph you'd expect.

For the 350, they did some pretty big changes in 2009 though. I'd recommend 2009 to 2013.
Not sure about the IS-F models but for 2011 they put in a real LSD I think and then last one made was 2014.
Don't know what year the 8-speed was added. The reviews I saw they liked it but Steve says no

This body type is considered IS 2G spec.

About the carbon build up, I keep hearing about it but don't know of anyone actually suffering from it.
My 350 doesn't seem to have any issues "yet" and I hope it lasts. I've driven it for 70k+ miles now and all that's needed is oil and brakes.
I need to research this more. The Lexus community / forums are a far cry from anything you're used to with Hondas and there is no Helms manual.
