Changed the cabin filter.

New versus old ( disgustingly dirty ):

Pretty simple, there's a write-up in the DIY/FAQ section that contains lots of good info. Read through it and found a few useful tips.

1. Use a 5mm socket to pop out the clips holding the weatherstripping. I popped out four of them to get enough room.
2. Sprayed some Lysol disinfectant spray ( fresh linen smell! ) while running in the fan to kill bacteria and clean the system. Smells great now.
3. Make sure the filter clips in the back when you insert it and it's very secure otherwise it won't be correctly installed.

Changed the stock straps with Modifry ones.

Old:

New versus old:

Man the old strips were in very rough condition. Honestly they looked fine to me, so either they fell apart when I was removing them or I really didn't pay close enough attention.

The new straps come well packaged with great instructions and quick shipping. It was a bit confusing looping the straps around, but using the existing rivet holes was quite ingenious. The new straps and much more substantial and look great in the car ( even though I'm sure only I'll notice ).

One thing I noticed immediately was when closing the doors, previously the whole top would quiver and pulsate. With the new straps, the top is much more solid and barely moves with the recovered tension from the new straps. Top up driving, the top seems quieter and less squeaky, hopefully this stays the case.

Pretty easy overall. 14mm socket to loosen the tensioner and then just slide the new belt on. Make sure you align the belt correctly of course. I removed the intake for plenty of room. I'd imagine it'd be a quite a pain with it present.

Moddiction convex side mirrors + Spoon rear view mirror:

Love them. Once you get use to the distance, makes changing lanes a breeze and confidence inspiring being able to fully see your blind spots with the top up.

Spoon mirror I actually wish wasn't convex, since the rear window is so small anyways, but I got it for the glare reduction.

Very happy with this combination and I really like the blue tint.

Random notes:

The adhesive on the spoon mirror is very sticky, so I'd recommend removing the mirror to properly align the mirror. Once you get it on, it's going to be a pain to remove.

Getting the mirror back on is also a bit of a pain, here's a some good writeups: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/146.../#entry2180877 + https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/211.../#entry4014580

So far so good, same stretch of the road and the top is noticeably quieter and feels more solid.

Also the grease makes the seals look and feel soft and healthy.

Stock cat versus Berk HFC:

Installed:

I wasn't planning any engine modifications, since the gains are so minimal and I'm pass the point where I want anything close to a loud exhaust.

I had a slight rattle that I believe was due to the stock cat and from what I've read sound increase is minimal if at all, so decided to order a Berk HFC. Ordered through speed-freaks.net, which had the best price I found. Since it's drop shipped, I got it the next day from Berk since I'm local. Very happy with the order processing and shipment.

Weighs considerably less and hopefully adds a HP or two. Fitment and construction is top notch and installation is a breeze. Hardest part is getting the old rusty seized bolts off. I'd recommend jacking the car as high as you can, drowning the bolts in some type of penetrating fluid for at least 30 mins. I was a bit impatient and only waited 5 or so, luckily didn't snap any bolts, but had to use a huge breaker bar to get them off.

Used the supplied mounting equipment from Berk ( 3 bolts/washer/lock washer/nut ) and a gasket for the cat->muffler connection. Re-used the donut gasket on the header since it was in great shape.

So far so good, can't say I've noticed any increase in noise or power, but no CELs and my rattle is more or less eliminated. One thing that is amazing is how fast the test pipe yellows. After one drive, it nearly matched the rest of my exhaust.

One thing I noticed is the Berk instructions didn't specify any torque specs for the O2 sensor and 35 ft/lbs for the spring bolts and the cat->muffler bolts.

The WSM calls for 33 ft/lbs for the O2 sensor, 16 ft/lbs for the spring bolts and 25 ft/lbs for the cat->muffler connection, so I just went with the WSM. Make sure to use tons of anti-seize as well, since if you're in CA you'll be swapping it out every 2 years, which is very easy assuming the bolts are cooperative.

I recently saw a youtube clip of a car with a K&N FIPK and UK exhaust mod, tempting...

Copied from original thread:

Solved!

Turns it out wasn't the clock spring or the steering wheel rack, but instead the following:

Pop the object circled in red and behind it is a metal spring with grease. Grease looked very worn, so I re-greased the spring and the plastic cover over it and the very annoying squeak is no longer there!

Random notes:

No need for a steering wheel puller. Just undo the nut, then re-thread it 5-6 times and pound on the steering wheel from above at 3 and 9 o'clock and the steering wheel will easily pop off.

Remember to center the wheel and re-center the clock spring as well.

You have to take apart most of the steering wheel and column, but it's very simple and straightforward once the wheel is removed.

Of course un-plug the battery before handling the air bag.

Dyno:

Only engine mod is a Berk 63.5mm HFC. From the dyno sheets I've seen online, looks like a typical healthy powerband, which makes me relieved that the motor is in good shape.

Had a very positive experience at Evasive Motorsports. Great looking facility, nice, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Very fair prices as well.

Nice! All very good, thoughtful mods! Plus fixing it to make it "just right" is a bonus in my book.

Do you get any drone from the Berk HFC?
