Mad Love
Its 1935. Many given stereotype performances are new. This is a prime example of a mad scientist psychopath movie. Mad Love brings us a horror movie, perhaps a B movie, made in the German noir style. Lorre just nails the part of the mad scientist, obsessive, genius, strange. As a new German immigrant he still has that accent he tried later to remove from his characters, in this movie it is a benefit.
the story line is nothing new, it was when this was made, so it is done with all seriousness. Slow moving at times since it is a very old film,it is Lorre's performance that haunts us after the final credit role. This is a B movie of that era as so many horror films were at the time. Elevated to a higher level by all that worked on it, the music, the writing, the direction, and some of the acting....all first rate.
7.5 outta 10 cause I just love a good Peter Lorre film.
