Thumbs down OFFICAL REGISTRATION: S2000 Indy Grand Prix of AL

S2000 Indy Grand Prix of AL April 9-11 2010

The official decision was made on Friday the 27

I have just got of the phone with Indy Racing League and they are looking to have an S2000 event at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds AL in support of Indy Gran Prix of Alabama.

This will be similar S2000 event like what has been done for the past couple of years at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

I am waiting on exact info/details vial email.

More info to come (dates, times, etc) (s).

What I do know

IRLs desire is to have 25-30 S2000 participate in the decal program and if it is run similar to St.Pete approx 16 ( still to be determined may be more slots) of you will be parade participants for day of race activities.

EDIT UPDATE Barber has requested to have 22-25 S2ks available for the parade/grid activities.

Each s2000 owner will receive 2 tickets and 2 pit passes as well as car coral parking

The major activities will be Friday Saturday and Sunday;

For those that participate in the decal program and are not selected to participate in the race day parade you still receive tickets.

Car requirements for the race day parade lap with drivers/ VIPs

Just like St. Pete; Cars that will be selected to do the race day parade laps must:
Near OEM
Wheels are ok but should be near OEM styling
Lips are also ok but prefer them to be OME or body colored
Spoilers are ok but no excessive wings acceptable examples ( OEM Spoiler, OEM Trunk Lip, MUGEN..ect )
Car must be clean inside and out and waxed.
Interior must be in good shape
un-wrecked car ( or appropriately fixed)
no roll bars or cages ( I just disqualified my self for the parade lap )
No crazy racing seats ( see above )
Must be able to drop the top with Tonneau Cover or remove the HT for the CR guys
no windscreen
yadda yadda yadda
I think you guys get the picture.
These rules are not set in stone and are assesses on a case by case bases

Car requirements for the decal program
This should also be self-explanatory.

All cars should be near OEM or tastefully modified.

REMBEMBER being a part of this you are representing IRL and Barber Motorsports Park you are expected to be respectful at all times and obey your local laws…ect

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know things are tight tight right now (Jobs, money, schedules are tight).

That being said, I hope to make this just as successful as the past events have been at St Pete.

I will be looking for local owners in other areas such as GA, FL ,TN and South Alabama to help out with decal parties ect.

The Decals will be supplied by IRL so there is no direct cost to you for the decals.

I will be working to set up Group Logging accommodations as soon as this thread gets posted. (More info on that later)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again the decal program is open to all S2000 owners and we do request that you attempt to show up on race day (hence the free tickets).

This will be a first come fist serve for S2000s wanting to participate in the Race day parade lap. (Pending approval of the car and the number of slots).

I do request that if you want to be consider for the race day parade lap that you continue to request a position even after we reach 16 slots. As the maximum number of parade lap cars is still to be determined and we need to have backups ready as things do come up and some one may or may not be able to make it last minute.

When you sign up please post a small picture of you car or provide link.

TwoR are you looking to just do the decal or do you want to get in on the parade lap also?

As the list grows I will be organizing up a get together to apply the IRL vinyl they are sending.

Which will happen about a week or two before the event.

Other then driving around with the vinyl to promote the race just show up race weekend and support the festivities there really is not much else.

If you want to participate in the parade lap you will need to have your wind screen removed on the "secret" compartment and be prepared to drive either one of the drivers or VIPs around the track before the race.

Its acutely not that much effort for what you are getting in return.

Hey Indyana, can you post up a few pix of the sticks? I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you've done it already. Just curious. Thanks

...also Mark, what will be the installation location?

I am thinking for the AL guys I will drive down the state meeting up with the groups in B-ham and in Montgomery.

You could call me a expert when it comes to putting on vinyl.
