Same here in the end. I used contact adhesive to glue patches on the inside of the rips and then stitched them up tight with UV-resistant thread, got everything from a boatyard for pennies (fils). It seems to be holding, but I'm not much of a seamstress, so its not the prettiest of repairs. Does keep it much quieter if I have to put the roof up though.

now i have been using the roof and it seems it quite good, yes for the stiches which are visible you may apply a coat of windshield silcon glue black- when its dry you will love it. i did it on my S and its holding there quite good (no leaks too) try it..

I finally gave in and got a new Robbins top from the States. Looks better than stock inside and out, the only place where it falls short is the finishing around the inside of the rear window:
