I got an email from Elivan/SCDA this morning. I had asked him about the salamander issue and he said "Everything's on target" for Palmer.

Racing is expensive up here.
I just registered for a full weekend at Summit Point for $375, vs $345 for a Thursday at Palmer.
Don't get me wrong, I`m still planning on going, but Yipes!

I was there on Friday. Fun technical track. Looking forward to going back once they have some time to get the facility further along. Couple of additional videos from Friday. These are not mine.

Hey all.

I ran at Palmer on 7/10 with Precision Track Time. Let me echo the others and tell you the track is awesome. The elevation and banking changes are amazingly scary (at least initially). It's a lot more challenging than Thompson, which mostly flat.

I put up a 30min vid, and a separate vid of my spin around turn 2. There's also another earlier handcam video from someone else. Search for "S2000 Palmer".

I plan to go again with SCDA on 9/1. PTT may run another event...I'll do that too, since they run open session format.

Have fun!

I raced at Palmer a few weeks ago with SCCA. The track is great, but the paddock and facilities are a little rough. No gas at the track, so bring your own. There is a shop about a mile down the hill that sells race gas in cans. Heard they only take cash.

Heard the track described as a Hill Climb or a Roller Coaster. Great fun.

Do yourself and other drivers a favor and keep all wheels on the track. There is no curbing and if you drop a wheel off, you will kick up good size stones onto the track. A Miata lost a rear view mirror from one such stone, but they could easily take out a windshield. Another reason is that dropping a wheel off may cause you to spin, as I did. I spun during the race at the turn-in for turn 8. Did not know why I spun, until I watched the video and could see that the right rear dropped off the racing surface. Fortunately, I kept it off the wall near the apex and was able to continue on. Remember: In a spin, both feet in.

I can't keep track of turn numbers at this place. Half the maps have 14 turns and half have 15 turns.
Is 8 the *fast* left hander?

Yes, after the high G downhill left hander carousel turn. Here is the map from the Palmer web site, showing 14 turns.

Unfortunately, many of the maps online have turn 2 split into two separate corners, making 15 total, and throwing off every number after that. It get confused reading summaries by corner number (not just yours, all of them), because it's never clear which map people are looking at.

Hopefully this will work itself out as time passes. Maybe the 15 turn was a preliminary layout released for publicity..?
