Default OEM hardtop on eBay. Authenticity check.

Hi everyone,

I am looking to get a used Honda OEM hardtop for my 2003 Silverstone S2000. The colors I prefer are black or silverstone to match my car.

I haven't seen any on sale here on the forum.

I did find this seller on eBay. The price is about right. They are around $4000+ right now for a used one. Any input and help are appreciate.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-s2000-.../281919492131?

Here are a couple questions that I have.

1. How can you tell a fake or replica from a Honda OEM hardtop? What are the things to look for?

2. Has anyone purchased from them? Is that store selling real Honda hardtops?

3. What are the things to check for when buying a used hardtop? What kind of damages or imperfections are okay and what are not?

Thank you!

I have been a long time lurker for an OEM hardtop and check eBay. There have been some eBay sellers (Texas) that have difficulty putting the listing description in proper English. They also reveal they don't really know the S2000 and will say anything for the sale. I am suspicious of the quality of the top, the care it has received, and the condition it is in. I would reject them as a seller.

There is another outfit in the San Francisco Bay Area, Euroboutique that is selling them on eBay and the website for $4400. They are a legit outfit. Pricey but they are 100% of what they represent themselves to be.

I think I am looking at Euroboutique.

I just contacted them. It seems like they are decent.

If anyone else has purchased from them, please let me know your experience.

Thanks!

He is legit, but his stuff is expensive. Look up euroboutique or s4play on this forum.

Those look to be authentic to me. It's very easy to tell if it's authentic or not - authentic ones are aluminum. All the replicas are FRP/CF. If anyone were to make an aluminum replica it would be worth noting.

When I was getting desperate for a top and couldn't find one local I contacted that ebay seller and shipping was super expensive, I believe the quote to ship to Chicago was $1K. Given his feedback I'd be comfortable that the top is legit. Keep in mind you'll also need the hardware in addition to the top.

Fortunately one popped up local and I paid $4K as I was desperate. Things to look for which devalue them are if it's been repainted, has dings/dents, or paint blemishes.

EUROBOUTIQUE prices are outrageous. but if you want something thats discontinued i guess you gotta pay to play. If money is not an issue they would be the ones to guarantee its authentic OEM. Or hope one pops up locally

Lol. Yeah they are all over this forum. Price is about $1k over what the normal price is if you bought used from someone local. My suggestion would be to keep hunting but if you cannot wait they are reputable just overpriced.

Price is kinda high but like most other people have said, they're a bit hard to find now and you get what you pay for (at least in an honest transaction...)

There's also been a pretty steady stream of stories/issues with aftermarket hard tops. Even Ballade, who used to be really respected on these forums had a pretty big issue when they started producing theirs a year or so ago. I remember there was a thread that they did a rather poor job defending themselves in, made me lose a lot of trust in the company.

Anyway, either OEM or try to find the most reputable aftermarket vendor possible. I just have no earthly idea who that may be anymore, it's getting harder and harder to find honest/quality businesses.
