retrofitting mdx jewels in to s2000 aftermarket headlights
soo ive started this project 1 and a half months ago. this is my first time doing anything of this sort so dont make fun of my progress!! :P so far ive cut the back housing just enough for the led array to fit. my next step is to make a large back piece to cover the whole entire unit. now my question is, does anyone have any advice on how to go to the next step?
my first idea was to 3d scan the back headlight housing and print a back housing using 3d printing. (problem is i know little to none about using software. but im willing to learn since im in college and it shouldnt be to hard. also have autodesk cad software already downloaded. played with it for a bit.)
my 2nd idea was to create a back housing out of thick poster board. i would then shape it but i felt like that wasn't a good idea because it might take to long. it would take long because theres so much curves on the housing and i dont wanna sit there for years cutting the right shape out.
my 3rd idea was to use expanding foam to create an ideal shape and afterwards i would take this foam shape and put a layer of fiberglass over it. i choose this idea and im currently working on it. im feeling iffy about it tho.
so my queestion is, is there a better way around this for what im doing? my goal is trying to cover the whole led array and seal it off into the headlight. any advice on how to make molds or fiberglass techniqes would help.
I WILL NOT stop this project or drop it. its gonna take me a while to finish and once it finish, i will jizz my pants.
here are a few pictures of my progress
dont mind the tape

damn, never knew the LED assembly was so large!
you could try something like this DIY projector shroud. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg_C_jtonZw

dude!! this helps sooooo much. thanks for the video. ill have to make a contraction big enough for this. ill look into this.
if i did it this way then using fiberglass would be a lot easier to handle
edit, looked into some local companys that does this process. theres a few but i wonder if they are willing to do single small projects?

How do the MDX jewel headlights compare to our S2000 headlights? I am still blown away by the output produced from our stock headlights (with some Osram Xenarc CBI's thrown in).
Is this retrofit purely for looks?

haha I'm also driving a 14 MDX and a 07 S2000...
The light output is definitely brighter and more white in the MDX... but man that seems like a lot of work lol.
Good luck and looking forward to seeing the finished result.
There's a guy with a 9thgen Civic that did this custom setup also... I've seen pics of it somewhere online.
