I own a MKV GTI. I have nothing, but respect for the S2000. I'm even looking to replace my GTI with one. Most of the guys on vortex or golfmkv are just biased fan-boys.
And we still need to race... I should have my gears in the next month or so. Whoo-hoo!

Hey! I just finished parting out my car. So race won't happen with my car, but my Bias fanboy friend has a stage 2 Gti. He'll be more than happy to race! lol I've been trolling the forums here for a long time. Trying to make up my mind on an AP1 or AP2. Keep going back and fourth. Already talked to my friend at Supreme about a Turbo kit. I'm leaning towards the AP2, because Greddy offers a Carb legal kit for it. I can get it for a pretty sweet price too. So we shall see!
Yup, Greddy's turbo kit is legal for AP1 too.
Honestly John it's hard to say... coming from a GTI, you'll probably like the AP2 better. It has shorter 1st through 4th gearing + a bit more engine torque so it feels better for daily driving, and is more 'comfortable' than an AP1. AP2's do have a few downsides though, like the 04-05 vs 06+ split. 04-05's don't have DBW, but they also can't use FlashPro.
That being said, from what I've read about the Greddy turbo kit it's JUST OK. Personally I'd skip it and grab a supercharger kit; far more reliable and it keeps the powerband similar to stock... just much, much faster. Plus most supercharger kits will make more power than the weaksauce Greddy turbo. Also, the Vortech and Comptech S/C kits are CARB legal.

Can you elaborate on this. I'm familiar with acronym DBW (Drive By Wire?).

They can't use flashpro because they don't have a CANBUS ecu and they don't use DBW (Hondata can tune most of Honda's new vehicles with their new Flashpro hardware)
If i was to get an AP2 i wouldn't even considering anything older than an 06.

I just had someone in a blacked out Golf(the boxy early 2000's model w/ dual exhausts) rev at me when I passed him to make a right. He see's me and starts to rev profusely. I looked out thinking ...seriously, was he expecting me to back up and say "Let's Race!!!", lol.

having owned both id say the outcome is about right. 0-60 would be close (the MKV .:R has a nice launch system). loved that car though. the torque is nice and early. awd is sweet. interior is great.
