Default Mustang GT

Driving to work today I noticed a new style Mustang GT with 2 big racing stripes driving spiritedly ahead of me. He's completely stock and I have a Comptech SC. I worked my way up to him. He got caught at a light a few rows back from the front. As I rolled up next to him I made sure to give a nice downshift to get his attention. Over the next couple miles we moved through traffic together. He kept accelerating to show off his big automatic V8 power. I made sure not to get on it a little to make sure he knew I was interested. Finally I came to an opening, a little ahead of him and waited for him to catch up.

He came up slowly to my rear bumper and all the sudden drops the hammer. When he's at my door I jump on it. He pulls up to get a fender on me before I stop the pull and walk away from him. I shut down about 80 with a car length advantage. We pull up to a light as I'm prepared to chat with him real quick, give him a little piece of mind in knowing I'm not stock (Although, I'm not sure he could take a stock S). The guy won't look over. The light turns and I waited to see if he wanted to go again. He rolled off really slow, I waited a bit more and decided I'd go on my merry way.

+1 for the S.

A stock 05 auto GT from a roll is a driver's race with an AP2 imho.

Good kill.

The reason I say driver's race is I killed one in my 5.0 from 70-100mph by 1.5 cars or so and gave it the hit every time. Same outcome. My 5.0 traps around 98-99mph.

Any idea how the autos run against the manuals? I was suprised to read how sluggish the manual GTs were (low 14's or high 13's if I remember correctly). I'd imagine the autos are a little slower.

I saw a stock 05 auto run CONSISTANT 9.3-4's@77mph in the 1/8 mile at our local track. NO matter HOW he launched it or hooked or spun, it always turned that.

That is exceptionally crappy for that car.

Auto 05+GT's USUALLY turn around a LOW 14/HIGH 13 (13.8-14.2) @ 99-101mph

A 5-speed should run mid 13's@ 102 or so.

The QUICKEST pass I ever heard of was one Evan Smith ran. 13.1X@99.9X mph. Stock everything. 1.8 60' IIRC.

There are people on the mustang forums that have run as low as 13.3 and trapped as high as 103 bone stock on stock tires.

The normal person should see a high 13 at a hair over 100 out of a 5-speed. JMHO and an avg. of what I have seen.

I could sware I read in a magazine that the manuals were running right around 14 flat. Guess that was the same guy driving that turned a 14.9 in an AP1 Thanks for the info, sounds like a properly driven manual would give me good run.

I test drove an 06 GT not too long ago and was largely underwhelmed by its acceleration. It had nothing on the completely stock 100k mile 1994 VR4 I drove to the dealer in, and that should be a comparable power to weight ratio between those two cars. Definitely felt like a high 14 second car to me

the new 06+ GT are decivingly quick, i agree they feel slow, but my buddies stock 06 auto ran to a 13.8@104 stock. not bad for a 3400lbs slush box. from a roll they sure get with it.

My experience with one was different. My 5.0 walked on the auto GT from a 70 punch rather decisively. They vary I guess. Like anything. This car still had temp tags too. Maybe not broken in yet.
