Do you have the pre-TSB MAP sensor still?

If so, it's worth replacing it with the revised sensor..

The MAP Whack procedure has been superseded by the new sensor.

MAP Sensor and Holder Kit:
P/N 06176-PCX-000

Otherwise the old procedure is to tap the thing with a screwdriver handle while lightly revving the engine... For 20 seconds or so.

Looks like the new one. Zip Tie molded into the sensor body. I'll definitely still try the whack first, then ECU reset, then charging system check, then VTEC solenoid check.

When i I started the engine just before these symptoms started, the revs jumped way over typical. It went to about 1500 or 2000 RPM, and I just attributed it to cold weather (28F).

Just a quick update for anyone following. My MAP sensor is already the updated one, but the connector was very loose. In addition to tapping it with the handle of my dead blow, I was able to get two more clicks out of the zip tie. It fits much tighter now, and the car drives the way I think it should.

please please please tell me you're not going WOT at 3000rpm.

also if it's an ap1 check if there's a zip tie on your map sensor, it was a tsb from honda.

The post you quoted was from over 8 years ago. I probably shouldn't have resurrected the thread, but I had similar symptoms.

With that hat said I do WOT at low RPMs all the time. It's the only way I knew there was a problem with my MAP sensor.

S2krazy, this was actually my 'longshot' idea as well.. i searched for slipping clutch symptoms and im not having any shaking or rattling or anything, but maybe my problem is pre-symptoms of those symptoms?

My friend with a WRX had to replace his clutch and he said he felt the same stuff at the beginning, then it got real bad and he couldnt drive the car till he got it replaced, so im a little worried about the clutch, gonna check the easy stuff first though

But thanks guys, later today ill give it a map whack and see what that does

I believe we are on the same boat ,clutch replacment. try driving uphill road ,stop and then try on1st gear , see if theres delay as you go forward. And lastly after a few miles of driving check if theres a burning smell like breaks. if yes most likely its the clutch
