Default OEM master cylinder

Well it lasted 191k miles before it finally died. I only used it for 80k miles and it was already leaking and pooping seal all over my carpet. Today it finally died right after my second drive with the new swap. Oh well new part gets in on Tuesday.

Was it leaking the whole time after 80k? What was you maintenance to it like after you found it leaking?

Curious since mine is leaking with 79k on it. I'm switching to the replace fluid with every oil change method to see if that clears up the leaking but may just replace it if its going to continue leaking for another 100k.

It was leaking since I bought the car, I replaced the fluid once a month I would lose about a quarter of the fluid in the reservoir over that time period. Frankly I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

what is your 'new swap'?

is this an ap1 cylinder or ap2?

i had an ap2 cylinder put in to my ap1 and the ap2 doesn't leak.

i wonder if they updated the part, i never looked into it.

It's a Nissin brand one, IDK if it's an AP2 or 1. Either way it ain't leaking now. The swap is the engine, I swapped in an AP2 engine with 78k miles to replace my 191k mile oil guzzling Subaru S2000 engine.

They say you can tell a lot about a car's combustion by looking at the plugs. My #2 wasn't doing too well.

Yeah, but it just threw third gear synchro, so AP2 transmission to the rescue.

i was wondering if it would just be easier to drop the ap1 engine tranny prop shaft and diff in one piece and bolt up the same ap2 in one piece.

Likely if you're willing to drop the front subframe you could lift the car off the engine/trans with a lift. Otherwise you have to part the transmission from the engine. If you can get the engine out through the hood with the transmission attached you are a magician.

I bought a 03 with 52,000 miles and it had a leaking Clutch Master Cylinder. You can find the grey cap Nissin one on eBay for a lot less than the OEM part, is the same thing. I've had one installed for 1.5 years now and no issues, I've adjusted it once since it's been installed. I would suggest installing a stainless steel line at the same time too.
