Colorado has the 5th lowest unemployment rate and ranks the 4th for population growth rate in the nation. The economy must be doing well to support these statistics. As of recent my area in Colorado hasn’t given any incentives, grants, or tax concessions to lure businesses either.

This positive atmosphere may change when my local cities are deemed as sanctuary cities, losing out on “federal funding”. However, it just may be beneficial to growth. Time will tell.

It does. Many mid-western people spend excessive time and their money here.

Our local area (Rosslyn VA in Arlington Co) has been suffering from some overbuilding in the commercial sector. We have large highrises now that rival a big city, because of prohibition of tall buildings in downtown DC. But it is a lot of expensive space and it's taken awhile to fill it up. Recently Nestle has moved its headquarters here, and yesterday the announcement that Gerber (which I believe is owned by Nestle) is also moving its headquarters into the same building. So things are looking up in the commercial sector. What's happening in your local area?

We live in a retiree friendly state. Our property and school taxes were reduced when we turned 65. We pay about $120/month for taxes. No sales tax and our state tax is reasonable. We are very happy here plus we live in a beach town.

Unemployment around 3.5% or lower here. Mass. tax revenues increased by 1.4% in FY 2017. Gross Mass product is over $520B. Some big name tech companies are opening offices or campuses here.

Almost all indicators in Massachusetts are still up.

The +1 has been in Marinette WI the past couple of days on Navy business. Gearing up for a big shipbuilding contract. Marinette is a small place - 10K people. Across the bridge from an even smaller place, Menominee, MI, population 8K. He hadn't been in the area in about three years and noticed that some businesses in both places have closed. It appears there isn't much of a tax base to help the economy along. Maybe MI Dave can give some insight. It is beautiful up there, though. Lots of farms and cows. Nice drive up from Green Bay.

What's going in the rest of y'all's necks of the woods?

Unemployment still at 3.5%, Mass fy 2018 tax collections are $900M ahead of the benchmark YTD. Median home price is above $400k. Housing sales are down because there is no inventory and huge demand. Construction is everywhere. High tech, health care and pharmaceutical are big drivers while education remains a large but static employer. In Boston, Canton and Falmouth I see plenty of help wanted signs. Professionals are playing salary roulette again, jumping to new employers for higher wages after two or three years. I’d say it is doing great overall. We have other Mass people here who may be having different results locally.

Between new businesses and those businesses that have been reinvesting and expanding the town continues to see significant growth. The Town of Plattsburgh plays a leading role in contributing to the regions low unemployment rate and supporting the local economy. Serving as the hub of aerospace and manufacturing clusters.
