I can't seem to find the info that says which product to use for cleaning my Honda S2000 car cover in a large washing machine. I believe that it has the word "Fantastik" in the name, and you can only buy it from a web site. Does anyone know which detergent I should be using?

Thanks for the advice, Mike, but I know there's a specific detergent that's recommended for this cover, and that you're supposed to use the largest machine they have in a Laundromat. I found the product for sale on a web site several months ago, and know that it costs about $14, but I'm darned if I can remember the product name! Very annoying.

BTW. I've just discovered that since I changed over to using Zaino, the paintwork is now so slick that it's almost impossible to put the car cover on when there's even the slightest breeze. The damn thing seems to have a will of its own, and just keeps sliding off. I'm going to have to change my brand of cleaner; Zaino is just too good!

i used to send the cover to the dry cleaners...
much easier to wash at home. yes, the home machine is a bit small for the cover, but it gets clean!
just talked to mark- he should be posting his ideas on what to use to clean the cover with...

I have a car cover for my Prelude, and I was told to wash it with two capfuls of fantastik. I'm not sure what you were told, but the fantastik that I was told to use was the stuff that comes in a spray bottle, just like windex and 409.

This stuff definitely does not cost $14.

Yes, MarkS2K is correct. I have a cover for my S4 and that is exactly what was recommended. Please don't wash it at home! This is strictly discouraged. Wash it at the laundramat in a commercial machine; I think "no aggitator" kind. They do recommend the Fantastik, as in glass and surface cleaner.

I wish I saw this earlier... I washed my car cover and dried it with hot/hot mode... It did not work out too well... I think washing it with machine is ok but dry it hung or in cold/cold in drier is better.

I called and talked to Top Notch, where I bought my cover. They said to use Fantastik in a front-loading washing machine, no agitator, with an extra rinse and spin cycle.

They also said that if it wasn't too dirty, to put on the car inside out and spray it down with a hose. Any dirty areas can be washed with Fantastik and then carefully rinsed. Leave it on the car until it dries.

I just got an e-mail back from Covercraft, and they said the fantastik to use is not the same as the windex or 409 stuff. The stuff you found at $14.00/bottle is the right stuff. Here's a link to what they're talking about.

They also said that instead of Fantastik, you can use Ivory or Dreft. You do not want to usea strong detergent, since it will ruin the water repellence.

Washing the car cover should be done in a big industrial washing machine. The cover should be dried by placing it on the car. Do not put it in a dryer.
