The Journey of Buying My Last S2000
Been in and out of S2ki for almost 14 years. Now on my 4th and final S2000 that I will be keeping.
This year we will be doing a video series hopefully like no one has ever seen showing the history, buyers guides, a massive review, and showing how the platform has evolved over the years.
Now that we have connections with all of the manufacturers we want to start lobbying for a return to simplicity by highlighting things about this community and car that we just don't see with many vehicles anymore.
We hope the videos on the S2000 will excite the owners from the past and the future. But for now here was a quick look at the trip I took over the course of two days to buy and ship the S2000 and then doing all of the checklist items to get it up to date.
What was your buying experience like, and do you plan on keeping your existing car forever?

Wow, I was thinking this was going to be another hey-guys-here's-my-s2k video but I've actually watched most of your Youtube videos. Looking forward to the series.
Overpaid for my used S2000 but I fell in love with it during the test drive.

At this point I think over paying is common. Its becomming harder to find a clean one. But as you said you either love it or accept it and enjoy it. For once in a long while looking forward to making some videos about this car, more from perspective of loving the car vs. The jaded side. I think owners will really enjoy it, and as you said it wont be another "check out my ride/build bro series."

Looks like everything I did to my '06 when I bought her in the summer of '14. Good preventive maintenance for any used S2000! Didn't break the breaker bar, though, that waited until we removed the crank pulley on my buddy's AP1 to mount a supercharger.
Drove from Cleveland to Green Bay last summer. Never saw 93 octane once I left Ohio. Pretty sure I refueled in Illinois with 91. Same for Wisconsin.
Not sure that it matters, of course, just curious if 93 is rare in your area. BP and Shell have it here for sure.

Great post. It was like deja vu watching it when I picked up MY04 shy of 5 years ago with only 7,000 miles on the odometer
Enjoy it, we all know RIO is the best color too
Thanks for sharing. I'll sub on YouTube when I get home from the office.
EDIT:
To add on to the above..
My buying experience was an interesting one. I originally looked at a 05 NFR down the street from my home, was about to put down a deposit, but the dealer sold it from under me, this NFR had about 35k on the odometer and at the time in 2012 they were asking about 21k or something..
I happened to find my rio on a private listing, with only 7,000 miles on the clock and I jumped at the opportunity, drove out there the very next day and put cash down, drove it home.. and man.. let me tell you, it was my first s2000 and to this day, it's one of the most favorite vehicles I've ever owned.
I've come from years of owning many vehicles and with a strong motorcycle track time, and this thing was a go-kart and offered the best of what I knew, on four wheels. Not the fastest but was it damn fun. It was also the first nonboosted vehicle I ever owned. To this day now 5 years later, still with pretty low mileage considering (45k on odometer), the motor still sits completely untouched with only aesthetic upgrades (all that can be removed without impacting stock body, no holes/drills/welding, etc) and a lot of "preventative maintenance" done along the way.
I've been tempted over the past year to sell it to someone that would love it as much as I do, for the gen 1.5 NSX (02-05), but I still cannot bring myself to do and I doubt I ever could. Plus the lady hates the NSX, she loves the S2000 probably more than me.
Given that clean S2000's are harder and harder to come by, I truly feel that anyone that loves the cars as much as we do and respects them as much as we do - would be hard pressed to find another vehicle to takes its exact place. I know it's no supercar, but it sure fits in its own category for putting a smile on our faces and in our hearts (aww).
This was 3 days after I bought it, and the quote holds true:

Nice video! This reminds me of the process that I undertook in buying my NSX. I flew from Chicago to Houston to purchase it from a dealer and then shipped it back to Illinois. I first came across an S2000 when we were having an NSX drive last year. Someone showed up in an S2000 and I thought the car looked like it would be a blast to drive. I ended up purchasing my car from a private party not far from Indianapolis this past autumn. Like Shrykhar, in hindsight I think that I paid too much for it, but have no regrets. Only had the car for a month before having to store it for the winter, and am looking forward to getting it out on the roads this April. FWIW, an NSX friend of mine told me that "the S2000 is more fun-per-dollar than the NSX". I couldn't agree more.
