Debbie downer here checking in with another first world problem. I can't be the only one here who would love to have the S2000 in a coupe similar to a cayman or Z4,Z3. It's not that I really dislike convertibles but honestly the weather here is either disgustingly humid or rainy so much that it would just be simpler. Plus I think it would look better. I know there is the hardtop option but now that I have the convertabIe wouldn't remove the option.
I do enjoy the top down sometimes but I would say it had very little if any influence on my buying the S. So who else here a crusty curmudgeon with the audacity to gripe about such a wonderful roadster?

I'm in the convertible camp. One of the things I love most about the S2000 is that it was designed from the beginning to be a convertible, not a coupe with the top hacked off later. When I bought mine in 2003, the 350Z and the RX8 were both new. I took a look at each, but really wanted a roadster. I drove it home from the dealer, top down, in the rain!

I do appreciate a nice coupe though and may consider a Cayman or the new Supra down the road.

I agree with Conedodger.
The appeal to me is that it's a roadster - top down motoring among the elements!
It's the essence of the car and adds to the character of what makes it what it is. There's something just special about dropping the top and smelling the air, hearing the exhaust and seeing the sky above you.
I think there are some good options though for those who want a hard top - but I would not have bought the car if it was a coupe. It takes too much away from the overall experience.

The convertible initially drew me to the S2000, but I'm a fan of neither the soft top maintenance nor particularly the appearance of the top when it is up. Ideally the car would have been manufactured with a nice retractable hardtop so that we would have had the best of both worlds.

Actually I agree. I would prefer a retractable hardtop most of all!

Depends on the car. I am happy with the s2000 as a roadster. It has the rigidity of a coupe. I would never get a corvette as a convertible, or a 911. I would get a boxster over a cayman.

I will say that I do love top-down driving in the S2000. It's an amazing experience. However, the practicality (as practical as you can get with a 2-seater) of a fixed-top would be more efficient than a convertible. I do wish Honda offered the version below.

That is sharp! I've always loved the 240Z and this is as close to a modern version I've ever seen.

I would tremendously prefer an S2000 coupe. Would be the perfect car for me. I hardly ever drop the top and the wind noise has I believe permanently damaged my hearing (mild tinnitus?). A hatchback S2000 would also be a ton more utilitarian for carrying stuff like wheels/tires to the track as well.
